Samsung Exynos 1280 SoC is now official. The chipset, which powers several Samsung smartphones such as the Galaxy A53 and Galaxy M33, is billed as a mobile platform that brings 5G connectivity as well as on-device artificial intelligence to mid-range phones. In addition, the South Korean company claims that the SoC offers efficient computing and excellent graphics performance. It has eight cores in total: two Arm Cortex-A78 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores. The processor supports a maximum camera sensor resolution of up to 108 megapixels and a Full-HD + screen resolution with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.
According to Blog Post The Samsung Exynos 1280 SoC has an octa-core processor that has two Arm Cortex-A78 cores up to 2.4GHz and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores up to 2.0GHz. In terms of graphics, the mobile platform features a Valhall-based Arm Mali-G68 GPU that is “optimized with Fused Multiply-Add (FMA) technology” for power-efficient gaming. The chipset is manufactured using a 5nm EUV process and supports Full-HD+ display resolution with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
The Samsung Exynos 1280 SoC Neural Processing Unit (NPU) offers “seamless on-device AI” and is said to be capable of up to 4.3 trillion operations per second (TOPS). Samsung says the chipset is capable of high-quality AI functions such as scene segmentation, real-time motion analysis, multi-object surveillance, and more.
In terms of cameras, the Exynos 1280 SoC is said to offer sensor support up to 108 megapixels. According to Samsung, an advanced image signal processor (ISP) allows the chipset to connect up to three input streams simultaneously to support up to 16-megapixel triple cameras. The processor also supports multi-frame image processing and electronic image stabilization (EIS) to improve image quality. In terms of video, the chipset supports 4K video recording at 30fps.
Finally, the Exynos 1280 comes with a built-in modem that offers connectivity options for both sub-6GHz and 5G mmWave, as well as 2G GSM/CDMA, 3G WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, HSPA, and 4G LTE. Samsung says that below 6GHz, the chipset supports downlink and uplink speeds of up to 2.55Gbps and 1.28Gbps, respectively. It also offers support for dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac MIMO, Bluetooth v5.2, and FM Radio Rx.
