Redmi Note 8 Android 11 Update for Indian Users Reportedly Ready

Redmi Note 8 users in India can finally get the Android 11 update. The update was first released to Redmi Note 8 users in China nine months ago and it took Xiaomi a long time to prepare the update for the Indian audience. The upcoming Redmi Note 8 update will reportedly only update the phone to Android 11, but won’t bring the expected MIUI 12.5 update with it. It is not clear yet as to when Redmi Note 8 users will receive MIUI 12.5.

XiaomiUI reported that the Redmi Note 8 Android 11 update is ready for the Indian audience. The version number of the update is listed as V12.0.1.0.RCOINXM, and the tweet says “the update is ready.” However, there is no official confirmation yet.

This does not mean that the rollout has begun, however, it is likely to begin soon. XiaomiUI reports that the company will combine the Android 11 update and security patch with the V12.0.1.0.RCOINXM firmware. It is not clear when this update will be widely rolled out to Indian audiences. As a reminder, the Chinese audience received the Android 11 update on Redmi Note 8 over nine months ago.

Redmi Note 8 users from China also received the MIUI 12.5 Global Update earlier this month. The firmware version number for the update is V12.5.1.0.RCOMIXM. Xiaomi says the MIUI 12.5 update for the Indian audience is not ready yet. The MIUI 12.5 update brings significant system optimizations that should enable the OS to run faster and smoother overall.

MIUI 12.5 is a complete redesign of the system’s user interface that claims to reduce CPU usage by up to 22 percent and power consumption by up to 15 percent. MIUI 12.5 will also allow users to uninstall system apps. Xiaomi claims that the vast majority of system apps can be uninstalled, while a small number of apps can be hidden.
