The Redmi K40S was unveiled on Thursday at an event in China along with Xiaomi’s latest Redmi K50 series smartphones, the Redmi K50 and Redmi K50 Pro. Redmi K40S is an upgraded version of the original Redmi K40 smartphone released in February 2021 with similar specifications including Snapdragon 870 processor coupled with up to 12GB RAM. It features a 6.67-inch E4 EMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone is equipped with a 48MP triple camera and a 20MP selfie camera.
Redmi K40S price, availability
Redmi K40S price starts priced at CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs. 21,500) for the base 6GB + 128GB storage model. The smartphone is also available in 8GB + 128GB storage for CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 23,900) and 8GB + 256GB storage for CNY 2,199 (roughly Rs. 26,300). Meanwhile, customers can purchase the high-end 12GB + 256GB model at a price of RMB 2,399 (roughly Rs. 28,700). Redmi K40S is available in Aurora, Black, Green and Silver colors.
The smartphone is already available for purchase in China through the company’s website. Xiaomi has not yet announced when the smartphone will be released in other markets, including India.
Specifications of Redmi K40S
Redmi K40S Dual SIM (Nano) runs on an unknown version of Android with MIUI 13 on top. The smartphone features a 6.67-inch Samsung E4 AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution (1080×2400 pixels) with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 360Hz. It is powered by a 7nm octa-core Snapdragon 870 SoC, just like the Redmi K40 launched in February 2021. Redmi K40S is equipped with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM.
As for the front camera, the Redmi K40S features a 48MP Sony IMX582 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens, as well as an 8MP ultra-wide camera with a 119-degree field of view. 2 megapixel macro camera. The smartphone is equipped with a 20-megapixel selfie camera.
The Redmi K40S offers up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, which cannot be expanded with a microSD card. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2, NFC, GPS/A-GPS, and a USB Type-C port. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, gyroscope, electronic compass, ambient light and color temperature sensors, and an infrared blaster. Redmi K40S is equipped with a 4500mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging. According to the company, the smartphone measures 163.2×75.95×7.7mm and weighs 195g.
