Qualcomm’s mobile chip is more powerful than ever

Qualcomm has announced its new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 flagship mobile chipset, which is the fastest so far.

The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 has been unveiled as Qualcomm’s new and most powerful mobile chipset to date, with improved CPU and GPU performance.

Qualcomm claims the new chip has 10% faster processor performance with a peak clock speed of 3.2GHz, as well as 30% improved processor power efficiency, meaning you can “surf the web or access social media more than 50 minutes longer.” ”

Likewise, the GPU clock speed is 10% faster while reducing power consumption by 30%. What’s more, the new chip supports 3D rendering, which makes fog and smoke much more realistic when you’re fully immersed in the game.

The Qualcomm AI Engine, now in its seventh generation, is also faster and more advanced than ever, and the manufacturer estimates its performance per watt is 20% higher than before. One potential feature of this in action would be the ability to capture footage with AI bokeh effects and face tracking running simultaneously.

In terms of picture quality in general, Qualcomm notes that its Snapdragon Sight feature includes an 18-bit triple ISP for superior color reproduction and clarity, while you can also record 8K footage with HDR while taking 64-megapixel photos.

Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF Gen 4 can deliver 5G speeds up to 10Gbps, while the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity System can deliver Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E speeds up to 3.6Gbps.

This silicon is a follow-up to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 we’ve seen in action on several Android flagships this year, including the Xiaomi 12 Pro, Oppo Find X5 Pro, and OnePlus 10 Pro. Below are some of the test results we have logged on these devices, where Geekbench scores refer to CPU performance and 3D Mark scores indicate GPU performance:

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Test Results

Geekbench 5 single core

Geekbench 5 multi-core

3D stamp – Wildlife

We look forward to seeing how the Plus devices compete against the ones listed above. Future models powered by this chip could well include the rumored OnePlus 10 Ultra, as well as the next generations of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.
