Pixel 7 Pro costs $413 to manufacture, Samsung makes over 50% of parts: Counterpoint study

The Google Pixel 7 Pro was launched in India last October. The smartphone debuted in the market with a starting price of Rs. 59,999. According to a new report, the cost of the Pixel 7 Pro specification is more contributed by Samsung than Google. The South Korean electronics company not only supplies the display for the Pixel 7 Pro, but also contributes to its Tensor G2 SoC as well as the imaging system. The Pixel 7 Pro Tensor G2 is produced alongside the Samsung LSI.
According to the latest report About half of the components that make up the Pixel 7 Pro are made by Samsung, according to Counterpoint Research. Meanwhile, Google contributes only 7 percent to the cost of the BoM Pixel 7 Pro. The report says that building the 128GB Pixel 7 Pro variant is costing Google around $413 (roughly Rs. 34,000).
The study states that Google’s latest Tensor G2 is developed in collaboration with Samsung LSI. The processor is manufactured on a 5nm Samsung Foundry process node. Google has reportedly made minor updates to the Tensor G2 octa-core processor architecture that cost them just $10 more than the original Tensor G SoC.
Apart from the process, Samsung is also providing the display for the Pixel 7 Pro. While the company’s ISOCELL GN1 powers the main camera, the Pixel 7 Pro’s periscope and front selfie cameras are powered by Samsung’s LSI image sensors.
Samsung also plays a major role in the Pixel 7 Pro’s cellular system, providing 5G baseband, transceivers, and power trackers for the sub-6GHz bands. The Korean brand has partnered with Murata to enable mmWave in a smartphone. The power and sound of the Pixel 7 pro is supported by several PMIC components also supplied by Samsung.
The 5000mAh battery, wireless charging chip, fast charging chip and other battery-related components used in Pixel 7 Pro are provided by Sunwoda Electronic, ATL, NXP, IDT, SK Hynix and Micron.
