Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro with Google’s Custom Tensor SoC, Android 12 Launch: Price, Specs

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were unveiled at the Google Pixel Fall Launch event on Tuesday, October 19. Both new Google Pixel phones come with a proprietary system on a chip (SoC) from a company called Tensor, which is designed to improve artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) results over previous generation Pixel phones. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also have a new design where you get a camera panel on the back rather than a square or rectangular module. Both new models also feature punch-hole displays and run Android 12 out of the box. Plus, the new Pixel phones are IP68 certified for dust and water resistance.

Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro price, availability info

Pixel 6 cost begins priced at $ 599 (roughly Rs 45,000), while the Pixel 6 Pro comes with a starting price of $ 899 (roughly Rs 67,500).

In terms of color options, the Pixel 6 will be available in Kinda Coral, Sorta Seafoam and Stormy Black, while the Pixel 6 Pro will be available in Cloudy White, Sorta Sunny and Stormy Black.

Both the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be available for purchase in the US starting October 28, with pre-orders starting today. Details of their arrival in other markets have not yet been announced. The price and availability of the Pixel 6 series in India is also a mystery at this point.

Pixel 6 specifications

The Google Pixel 6 Dual SIM (Nano + eSIM) runs Android 12 and features a 6.4-inch Full-HD + (1080×2,400 pixels) OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The display also has an aspect ratio of 20: 9 and a pixel density of 441ppi. The phone uses Google’s Tensor SoC as well as 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. It comes with a dual rear camera that houses a 50MP main sensor with an f / 1.85 wide-angle lens and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera. The rear camera setup is combined with Laser Detection Autofocus (LDAF) and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The Pixel 6 also has an 8MP selfie sensor on the front with an f / 2.0 lens.

Google partnered with Snap to offer a feature later this year called “Quick Tap to Snap,” allowing users to take snapshots for Snapchat even if the phone is not unlocked and is in Camera Only mode. There will also be special augmented reality (AR) lenses from Snapchat for enhancing shots with artifacts.

In addition to the Snap-enabled camera features, the Pixel 6 has a feature called Magic Eraser that helps you remove unwanted people and other objects from your processed photo. There are also pre-loaded features, including a Motion Mode, which offers preset pan and long exposure options, and Real Tone, which claims to use software algorithms to deliver accurate colors. The phone also has Face Unblur and Manual White Balancing, as well as other Google-exclusive camera focusing features.

In terms of content storage, the Pixel 6 offers 128GB and 256GB of internal storage. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS / A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. There is a fingerprint sensor in the display. Other onboard sensors include an accelerometer, ambient light, barometer, pyrometer, magnetometer, and a proximity sensor.

The Pixel 6 also comes preloaded with features including Live Translate for messages and images that will work offline.

Google has provided the Pixel 6 with a 4,614mAh battery that’s rated to support 30W wired fast charging and 21W fast wireless charging. There is also a Battery Share feature that allows users to charge other devices wirelessly through the Pixel 6. This is similar to Wireless PowerShare on Samsung Galaxy flagships. In addition, the Pixel 6 measures 158.6 x 74.8 x 8.9 mm and weighs 207 grams.

Pixel 6 Pro Specifications

The Pixel 6 Pro Dual SIM (Nano + eSIM) also runs Android 12 but comes with a 6.7-inch QHD + (1440 x 3.120 pixels) LTPO OLED display that supports variable refresh rates ranging from 10Hz up to 120 Hz. The display also has a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio, 512ppi pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Under the hood, the Pixel 6 Pro runs on the same Tensor SoC that is available on the regular Pixel 6. It is paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The phone also features a triple rear camera that includes a 48MP telephoto lens in addition to a 50MP wide-angle camera and a 12MP ultra-wide angle camera. The optional telephoto lens on the Pixel 6 Pro is advertised to offer 20x Super Res Zoom (4x optical zoom).

For selfies and video chats, the Pixel 6 Pro has an 11.1MP front-facing camera sensor with an f / 2.2 lens.

Like the Pixel 6, the Pixel 6 Pro comes with Magic Eraser, Motion Mode, Real Tone, Face Unblur, and other customizable camera features right out of the box. It will also get Quick Tap to Snap and other Snapchat features in the future.

The Pixel 6 Pro comes with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB UFS 3.1 internal storage options. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS / A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. There’s also an in-display fingerprint sensor. Other onboard sensors include an accelerometer, ambient light, barometer, pyrometer, magnetometer, and a proximity sensor.

Google has integrated a 5003mAh battery into the Pixel 6 Pro that supports 30W wired fast charging and 23W fast wireless charging. There is also a Battery Share function for sharing energy with other devices using the wireless charging standard. Finally, the Pixel 6 Pro measures 163.9×75.9×8.9mm and 210 grams.
