Oppo Find X5 release date, price and specifications

The Oppo Find X5 series is here, with three phones led by the top-end Find X5 Pro. With a ceramic body, a Hasselblad-powered camera, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor inside, it looks like the ultimate Oppo flagship — and a real competitor to the S22 Ultra.

The regular Find X5 and Find X5 Lite are impressive options in their own right, and Oppo’s latest flagship line should offer something for everyone.

Apparently, it too will grow, with new rumors that Oppo is planning a new addition to the lineup.

Where is the Oppo Find X5 for sale?

Oppo announced the Find X5 phones on February 24th. They have been launched in the UK, Europe and Asia, but will not officially arrive in the US.

In previous years, we’ve seen the Find X lineup include regular, Pro, Lite, and Neo models. There’s no sign of the Neo this year – but it’s possible, though unlikely, that Oppo is still planning to release the model later this year.

Company is apparently planning another addition to the series. Leaker Digital Chat Station posted on Weibo that Oppo is planning a new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 based phone that will apparently launch in August. He did not provide other details, although it will most likely be an updated version of the Find X5 Pro with an updated chipset.

Why is it not called Find X4?

We’ve been hearing for months that Oppo might miss out on the Find X4, and now the company has confirmed that it is.

The company told us that this is because it considers the foldable Oppo Find N to be the fourth generation of the Find, making it the fifth.

While Oppo didn’t say it, it’s easy to imagine there could be another reason in the mix – 4 is an unlucky number in Chinese culture, similar to 13 in the West, and it’s not uncommon for brands to skip it outright. their phone number.

How much does Oppo Find X5 cost?

Since the Find X5 series is not launching in the States, there are no official dollar pricing, but here’s how much this range costs in the UK and Europe:

Those prices are roughly in line with previous entries, though curiously the Pro was slashed £50 in the UK and up €150 in Europe (or at least Ireland, where our pricing information comes from). Ouch.

What about the features and design of the Oppo Find X5 series?

Since there are three phones in the Find X5 series, we’re going to break them down one by one, starting with the model with the best specs.

Find X5 Pro

Oppo surprised us all with the outlandish design of the Find X3 Pro, and the company has stayed that way with the Find X5 Pro.

The phone is available in both black and white colors and the back is made with a super hard ceramic finish. The two colors are called Glaze Black and Ceramic White, which is a little misleading – in fact, both colors are made of ceramic. There is a third option in China wrapped in light blue vegan leather, but we don’t expect this trim to be available anywhere else in the world.

Gorilla Glass Victus is used to cover and protect the display, while the IP68 rating guarantees some weather protection.

The curved camera module of the X3 Pro is back, but with an even weirder custom design. However, there is a method to the madness – the slope on the bottom edge is designed to fit where your finger is when you hold the phone, giving the heavy handset (218g) room to rest comfortably.

Inside the phone, the Find X5 Pro runs mostly Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 – there is an alternative version that uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9000, but that variant is only launching in China. Both chips are built on the 4nm process and actually have pretty similar specs, so don’t expect much performance difference between the two phones.

The phone comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage in just one variant – at least for Europe.

The display is a 6.7-inch WQHD+ AMOLED display using LTPO 2.0 technology for variable refresh rates from 1 to 120Hz. Most impressively, this also offers a partial refresh rate change – meaning that if you’re multi-tasking, the phone can run one app on one part of the screen at 120Hz and on another part of the display at up to 1Hz.

In terms of battery, expect a 5,000mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC wired charging and 50W AirVOOC wireless charging. It also supports 30W wired PPS and 15W EPP wireless.

Back to the camera where you get a triple rear camera. As before, you get a dual main camera with the same 50MP sensor used for both the main lens and the ultrawide. The main camera has an f/1.7 aperture and has 5-axis optical image stabilization (OIS), while the ultra-wide camera has an f/2.2 aperture and uses a free-form lens that should reduce distortion.

The third lens is a simple 13MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture and 2x zoom. There’s no micro lens or intense periscope zoom this time around – Oppo says it thinks customers are more concerned about stabilization and night mode performance on the main cameras, so it’s focusing on that.

On the front is a 32-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture and RGBW lens.

You have already noticed that the phones have the Hasselblad logo. It’s a camera company that’s already partnered with Oppo subsidiary OnePlus – it helped with the cameras for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, and also contributed to the 10 Pro. In that sense, it’s not surprising that he also collaborates with Oppo, and this partnership was formalized ahead of the launch of the Find X5 series.

With the Find X5 Pro, Hasselblad’s specific contributions are limited to software – and similar to what we saw with OnePlus last year. The Hasselblad branding can be found in the camera app (including its distinctive shutter sound), and you also get a Hasselblad Pro mode, some color filters provided by the three Hasselblad photography ambassadors, and an XPAN photography mode with this camera’s unique 65:24 aspect ratio. .

You may have also seen the MariSilicon branding on the camera module. This refers to Oppo’s own MariSilicon X NPU – the company’s first proprietary chip designed to help with advanced image processing – used in the Find X5 and X5 Pro.

Instead of relying on the built-in ISPs of the Snapdragon and Dimensity chips, Oppo created its 6nm standalone neural imaging chipset to focus on specific areas it wants to improve in its flagship camera. MariSilicon X promises a vastly improved dynamic range (reportedly four times as wide as the Find X3 Pro cameras are capable of shooting), as well as the ability to run the X3 Pro’s noise reduction algorithm 20 times faster than the X3 Pro itself currently. .

Find X5

The Find X5 is similar to the Pro model in many ways, with a simplified design and a few specific tweaks.

The design is generally similar, but the camera module doesn’t connect as easily to the rest of the phone. And while the phone is also available in black or white, it’s made from glass, not ceramic. It also only has an IP54 rating, which is a bit lower.

It’s also slightly smaller thanks to its 6.55-inch display. It’s only at FHD+ resolution, and while it’s 120Hz, it doesn’t have the same LTPO variable refresh rate technology.

The main chip – last year’s Snapdragon 888 – is still quite powerful, to be honest – and while the storage is the same at 256GB, the RAM is slightly less at 8GB.

You also get a slightly smaller 4800mAh battery. Wired charging speeds are the same, but wireless charging is limited to 30W AirVOOC here.

Real camera setup nearly is identical, and still uses the MariSilicon X NPU below the surface. The four lenses are almost identical, although here the main lens has a slightly narrower f/1.8 aperture and only has 2-axis optical image stabilization. The selfie camera doesn’t use the same RGBW sensor, and the phone has a slightly more limited color temperature sensor than the Pro model. Expect slightly less impressive color range and accuracy, but the differences should be minimal.

Find X5 Lite

Ironically, the Find X5 Lite isn’t actually a new phone at all – it’s a rebadged edition of the Oppo Reno 7 5G. This is not unusual for Oppo, which often rebrands phones for different markets.

However, it’s not a bad phone in any way. You get a MediaTek Dimensity 900, a 6.43-inch 90Hz AMOLED display, and 65W charging for a 4,500mAh battery. The camera has three rear lenses: a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera, and a 2MP macro camera – in fact, it’s also nearly identical in specs to the OnePlus Nord CE 2.

Note that this phone does not benefit from the MariSilicon X NPU or Hasselblad camera tweaks, and is also the only one in the suite to ship with Android 11 rather than 12.
