OnePlus, Xiaomi and others confirmed

Qualcomm has finally announced its next flagship mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

This name may come as a surprise as it violates an agreement that Qualcomm has used for years. While rumors suggested we’ll see 898 this year, the new naming scheme is supposedly meant to make it easier to understand.

There’s a lot going on with this chip, both in terms of the usual speed improvements and the new features it allows, and you can read all about them at the end of this article.

But what about phones that will run on the new chipset? Let’s see in which devices this chip is installed, and in which, in our opinion, it will work.

Motorola announced that the next Moto Edge will be powered by a Qualcomm chip during the Qualcomm Tech Summit, confirming that it will arrive very soon on December 9th.

That said, it looks like this phone will be targeting exclusively the Chinese market, so don’t expect it to appear in regions like the UK, Europe and the US. Hopefully we will soon see another version arrive on these shores.

Real me

Realme is set to release its first real flagship phone in 2022 and it has confirmed that it will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, we also know the name – Realme GT Pro 2.

Rumors point to a system with three cameras and a pair of 50MP sensors. It may also have a 6.8-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 5,000mAh battery.

Unofficial renders suggest the Realme GT 2 Pro is also very similar to the classic Nexus 6P.

Oppo was another brand that quickly announced that its next flagship will have the latest Qualcomm internals.

“We are committed to bringing premium 5G smartphones to consumers, such as the Find X3 series, so we are thrilled to launch the Snapdragon 8 Mobile Platform,” said Oppo’s Vice President of Overseas Sales Scott Zhang. …

“OPPO has a close relationship with Qualcomm Technologies and we believe the new mobile platform will bring huge improvements and high performance to the next generation of flagship smartphones.”

Oppo hasn’t announced anything else about the device, although it would make sense if it was the Find X4 series, likely titled Oppo Find X4 Pro.

Previous rumors have suggested that the upcoming Oppo flagship will feature a 6.7-inch QHD display with 120Hz refresh rate and a triple camera consisting of a 50MP wide-angle lens, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 13MP lens. 2x telephoto lens.

The same leaks also say this phone will use 80W fast charging and pack 12GB of RAM.

During the Qualcomm Tech Summit, Lei Jun, the founder and CEO of Xiaomi, appeared via video to announce that the Xiaomi 12 will be the first phone to feature the new chip.

This is a very typical Xiaomi move and we have seen many times how the Chinese brand announced its future flagship along with the disclosure of the Qualcomm chip.

No other details have been released regarding the phone, and we do not know when it will actually be released. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long as we were big fans of the Xiaomi Mi 11.

We’ve always expected the OnePlus 10 series, which will likely consist of the OnePlus 10 and OnePlus 10 Pro, to contain the latest Qualcomm chips and this has now been confirmed.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirms news on Chinese social network Weibo, stating (via Google Translate), “OnePlus’s new next generation products will be the first to feature the next generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platforms!”

“Our software and hardware development resources are focused on optimizing the flagship Snapdragon processor,” added Lau.

We were previously very impressed with how OnePlus phones perform, so it will be interesting to see exactly which features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 OnePlus decides to use.

What about everyone else?

Samsung Rumors have it that the chip will be used in multiple versions of its upcoming Galaxy S22 series, which is expected to be announced and unveiled in the first couple of months of 2022. Whether Samsung will use this chip in all regions remains to be seen as we often see it uses the Exynos chip in regions such as the UK.

Other brands we expect to use the phone in 2022 include Google, Vivo, Poco and others.
