The OnePlus 9 Pro could get a new color soon. The company’s COO Liu Fengshuo shared an image of the OnePlus 9 Pro with a white finish, hinting at a new color option. The phone launched in March this year alongside the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9R. It was then available in Morning Mist, Pine Green and Stellar Black. A new image posted by Fengshuo suggests there may be an additional color option coming soon.
Fengshaw accepted Weibo Share the OnePlus 9 Pro’s new color finish and ask for fan feedback. The OnePlus 9 Pro featured an all-white matte finish in the photo to prevent fingerprint smudges and provide a better grip. The CEO asked fans for their opinion on the new color. This does not guarantee a future launch, and OnePlus may simply opt out based on feedback or in case of any other glitches. Fengshuo did not offer any launch dates either. It’s also possible that the variant only launches in China, with OnePlus having a few country-specific limited edition models in the past.
Recent reports suggest there may be no launch of the OnePlus 9T model this year, and the new color option could be OnePlus’ new strategy to shake things up a bit as the OnePlus 9 lineup reaches its semi-annual lifecycle. Since the launch of the OnePlus 3T in November 2016, OnePlus has followed the trend of updating its flagship models to the T version in the second half of the year. However, this may not happen this year. The exact reason OnePlus might not include the OnePlus 9T in the roadmap is unclear. Some speculation stems from a global chip shortage that has begun to take its toll on phone manufacturing.
If the new OnePlus 9 Pro white variant is announced as compensation, it will likely be offered at the same price as the other three current variants. It is not clear how it can be called officially, but some rumors gravitate towards “Pure White”.
