Official iPhone 13 Pro: all specs, features and colors

Apple just unveiled the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max at an event in Cupertino, and it will be next year’s real flagship iPhone. Here’s everything we know about the device.

Rumors about the upcoming release of Apple’s latest iPhone series have been circulating for months now, but the device is finally official.

This is not a radical reimagining of the iPhone, and in some prior years it might even have been labeled the iPhone 12S Pro – which previous rumors had suggested might have happened.

That doesn’t mean it doesn’t look like an exciting update, as many of the added features are exactly what we think the iPhone 12 Pro was missing. There is also a completely new display, interior design and new camera features to grab the attention of users.

The iPhone 13 Pro comes in two sizes (6.1 and 6.7 inches) and they’ll sit next to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini.

Price

Apple has lowered the price of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max a bit this year, which is surprising in some ways, but gives an idea of how Apple thinks about this rather low-key update.

The iPhone 13 Pro is priced at £ 949 and the iPhone 13 Pro Max is £ 1,049. Apple should be aware that this can be a daunting task for iPhone 12 Pro owners as it offers up to $ 1,000 in exchange for select models. Last year’s models started at £ 999 and £ 1099, respectively.

This time, Apple is adding a 1TB storage model, meaning there are now four configurations: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The most expensive iPhone 13 Pro Max costs £ 1,549.

All models will be available for pre-order from 1:00 pm Friday September 17th and will be available for purchase on September 24th in Graphite, Gold, Silver and Blue.

Camera

Apple says the 12MP triple-sensor camera on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max is the biggest camera system achievement ever. Both models feature a 77mm telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom for both stills and movies.

Apple has also integrated a new ultra-wide sensor that’s 92% better in low light than its predecessor. This sensor is the first to include macro photography, which eliminates a rather significant disadvantage of iPhone models. This means you’ll be able to get as close as 2cm to your target. As you’d expect, this feature looked amazing during an event, and Apple says it will also work in video, slow motion, and slow motion modes.

The 1.9μm main camera with 1.9μm resolution delivers more detail than the iPhone 12 Pro and promises twice as much information in low light thanks to its / 1.5 aperture.

All three cameras now also have Night Mode enabled, while the company promises a new Smart HDR computational photography feature for even better AI-powered results.

As with the iPhone 13 models, the Pro offers sensor-shift optical image stabilization, which stabilizes the sensor, not the lens, for both photos and videos.

A cinematic mode aimed at filmmakers is also available, offering “rack focus”, as well as a new iPhone-based feature called ProRes for more advanced filmmakers, which Apple says will “provide higher color fidelity and less compression.”

All in all, the cameras seem to be the biggest update for this year’s models.

Battery

Apple has redesigned the interior of the iPhone 13 Pro line to allow for a larger battery. Apple says that when combined with the efficiency of iOS 15 and the new A15 Bionic chip, iPhone 13 Pro users will see huge improvements – up to 1.5 hours on a single charge. On the iPhone 13 Pro Max, that’s 2.5 hours more than a full day of battery life. Apple says the latter offers the longest battery life on an iPhone, with up to 28 hours of continuous video playback on the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Screen

Apple supports display sizes for iPhone 13 Pro models. The iPhone 13 Pro has a 6.1-inch OLED display, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch OLED display.

IPhone 13 Pro introduces a new 1000 nits Super Retina HDR display for the first time, 25% more than iPhone 12 Pro. Apple is also using ProMotion technology for the iPhone for the first time. There is a dynamic refresh rate from 10 Hz to 120 Hz, depending on the content. So, if you are browsing a simple app, the refresh rate will be lower to conserve battery life. Get everything you need for powerful gameplay. ProMotion technology also works when switching between apps.

Naturally, this time it retains the rugged Ceramic Shield technology (which protects the modern display from scuffs, scratches and splinters) from the iPhone 12 Pro line.

While the notch hasn’t been completely fixed, Apple has made the TrueDepth camera array handling Face ID and selfies 20% smaller than last year’s models.

Specifications

The main feature here is the new A15 Bionic processor with 5-core GPU, which Apple says is 50% faster than the competition. There is a 6-core CPU made up of two new high-performance cores and four new high-performance cores. Apple is also promising a new 16-core neural engine that it says can do 15.8 trillion operations per second.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is also IP68 water and dust resistant, and durability is promised thanks to a surgical stainless steel strap and frosted glass back.

Apple is also promising 5G will work in more locations thanks to the addition of new bands. This will likely depend on the region, so we will be waiting for news on whether the UK 5G performance will be boosted on these models.
