Nothing Phone 1 Get software update to Nothing OS 1.1.4 with major camera improvements, bug fixes and more

Nothing Phone 1, the first smartphone from the British brand led by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, was launched globally in July. The company has now started rolling out the Nothing OS 1.1.4 update along with the September 2022 Android security patch for the phone. The update brings many camera improvements and power optimizations for Always On Display, as well as bug fixes for the company’s first smartphone. An update to Nothing OS 1.1.4 will allow users to add a Nothing watermark to their photos and offer low latency high-definition audio codec (LHDC) codec support on the Nothing Phone 1.

Carl Pei announced the rollout of Nothing OS 1.1.4 for Nothing Phone 1 via a tweet on Sunday. The new over-the-air firmware update (OTA) brings new features, several camera improvements, bug fixes and performance optimizations. As mentioned, the update is 136MB in size.

The Nothing Phone 1’s camera setup seems to have benefited the most from the latest Nothing OS update. Like some new smartphones from Xiaomi, Realme and Poco, Nothing Phone 1 now allows users to watermark their photos. The update improves color calibration of the ultra-wide camera, as well as improved color consistency between the main and ultra-wide sensors. It also introduces a new motion detection algorithm that provides better stabilization when capturing moving subjects. According to the changelog, Nothing has also increased the shooting speed of the ultra-wide camera in HDR mode.

With the Nothing OS 1.1.4 update, the company has integrated the latest features from the Nothing Ear 1 app into Nothing OS. This will allow users to switch between noise reduction modes and change gesture controls right from the quick settings panel and settings section. The update improves navigation accessibility on the phone by adding the ability to flip the 3-button navigation bar. It also provides support for the LHDC audio codec.

According to the Nothing changelog, the update includes September 2022 Android security fixes. It also optimizes the Always On Display feature to improve phone battery life. According to the changelog, it adds a new user interface for system updates and provides improved thermal performance as well as an improved face unlock algorithm.

In addition to general bug fixes, Nothing OS version 1.1.4 fixes network issues with some carriers. It also fixes issues that caused incoming calls to appear as coming from an unknown contact, as well as fingerprint issues in the HDFC Bank app.

The Nothing Phone 1 (review) was unveiled in July with a starting price of Rs. 32,999 for the base 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. The company raised the price of the phone by 10,000,000 rubles. 1000 in all price options in August.

Nothing Phone 1 specs include a 120Hz display, 50MP dual camera, 16MP selfie sensor, and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 onboard storage. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM. Nothing Phone 1 packs a 4,500mAh battery that supports 33W wired charging, 15W Qi wireless charging, and 5W reverse charging.
