Nanoleaf Matter Ready with New Essentials Lights

Matter has officially arrived, and smart home brands today announced their first Matter-compatible devices. While Matter 1.0, the new smart home protocol, technically arrived last month, it’s only today that we’re starting to see the first certified products.

Nanoleaf is in the first wave of followers, adding a set of Matter-friendly foundations to its Essentials line.

The brand has announced A19 and GU10 light bulbs and a smart tape – but you can’t buy them yet. The fixtures will be available for purchase worldwide from early 2023 from Nanoleaf, priced from $19.99 to $99.99 in the US and from £19.99 in the UK.

The lights will offer 16 million color options and ultra-bright customizable white with color temperatures ranging from 2700K to 6500K.

As you’d expect, you’ll be able to control them using your voice assistant or an app of your choice. You can also schedule automatic color changes throughout the day or set up scenes with other devices. After all, the point of Matter-certified devices is that they will work seamlessly with other Matter-certified devices, at least. However, there’s no reason to believe they won’t work with your current smart home setup.

The three fixtures were made by the brand that makes the light: sounds pretty simple. But this is the culmination of a lot of work behind the scenes. Nanoleaf CEO and Co-Founder Jimmy Choo explained the process: “Over the past two years, our team has been dedicated to bringing these products to life, working closely with the Connectivity Standards Alliance and the Matter Working Group to bring this new vision of interoperability to life. and security reality. We believe that creating a single interface that allows all devices to work together seamlessly is a stepping stone to even more intelligence and automation for a truly smart smart home.”
