Motorola has announced its new G22 phone, a budget phone that offers some enticing features for buyers at a discount.
The Motorola G22 has been announced, with a key feature being a quad-camera system led by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 4-to-1 pixel binning. The other sensors are an 8MP ultra-wide sensor with a 118-degree field of view, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro shooter, while the selfie camera is 16MP.
The device measures 163.95 x 74.94 x 8.49mm and weighs 185g. Motorola claims it’s “water-repellent” although there doesn’t seem to be an official IP rating.
The 6.5-inch LCD has HD+ (1600x720p) resolution and offers an improved 90Hz refresh rate. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio G37 chipset which is complemented by 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of RAM depending on the option you choose, which is expandable up to 1TB via SD card.
This phone does come with the beefy battery you’d expect from a Motorola device, which is a 5000mAh battery (which can be topped up with 15W charging) and it also has a 3.5mm headphone jack for plug-in audio; however, there is only one speaker, so you won’t hear stereo sound when playing music out loud.
The software is Google’s latest Android 12 operating system, with a typically minimalist Motorola user interface and NFC support for contactless payments.
The Motorola G22 will be available for purchase in the UK from “mid-March” this year with a starting price of £139.99. There are three color options – Iceberg Blue, Space Black or Pearl White – and you’ll find it at major retailers including Amazon, Argos, Currys, Giff Gaff, John Lewis & Partners, O2, Tesco and directly from Motorola.co.uk.
