Motorola foldable smartphone prototype unveiled at Lenovo Tech World 2022: all the details

Motorola showed off a new concept foldable smartphone Tuesday at Lenovo Tech World 2022. The movable display of this concept smartphone is a flexible OLED panel that measures 6.5 inches when extended and folds down to just over 4 inches. The released demo video shows the smartphone in action, but offers only a glimpse of the front panel. Earlier it was reported that Motorola is working on a foldable smartphone, codenamed Felix. There were rumors that this phone would expand vertically, similar to the concept smartphone that Motorola teased at the event.
Motorola’s new prototype appears to slide in or out of the bottom of the phone. As mentioned earlier, the flexible OLED display extends 6.5 inches and folds back over 4 inches. It appears to be working and devices seem to be able to resize it while streaming YouTube videos. However, the company has not said if they are going to put this prototype into production in the future.
This foldable smartphone prototype could be the Motorola Felix model that the company was reportedly working on earlier this year. It was claimed that this device is capable of extending vertically. It was reportedly designed to be small and pocket-friendly when unfolded. At the time, the Motorola Felix was believed to be in the early stages of development.
At the time, the report stated that the company was using a modified Motorola Edge 30 Pro to run software tests. However, the company’s plans to launch a smartphone based on the concept phone unveiled at Lenovo Tech World 2022 have not been revealed.
Other smartphone brands are also looking to bring functional foldable smartphones to market. A supposedly unboxing video of the LG Rollable was recently leaked. The video shows that this tube can be stretched horizontally by swiping with three fingers. Its curved pOLED display is said to be 6.8 inches in size, which can be expanded to a 7.4-inch screen. Under the hood of this LG smartphone could be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with 12GB of RAM and at least 256GB of internal storage.
