The Microsoft Surface Duo is finally getting the Android 11 update in select regions. Microsoft launched its first dual-screen Android smartphone back in 2020 with Android 10 out of the box. The device should have received the update sooner. The new update contains the January 2022 security patch, several bug fixes, and other system improvements. The Android 11 update ships with firmware version 2021.1027.156 and brings Xbox Game Pass, an updated app list, new pen features, more photo editing in the OneDrive app, and more. It comes with optimized quick settings, a new Microsoft ribbon design, and a new thumb mode in Microsoft SwiftKey. The update is currently rolling out to unlocked Microsoft Surface Duo models in North America and Europe.
Microsoft on Monday announced Changelog for Microsoft Surface Duo via the company’s support page. As mentioned, the Android 11 update for Microsoft Surface Duo comes as firmware version 2021.1027.156.
After updating the device, users can press the top button of the paired Slim Pen 2 to open OneNote. Surface Duo features are now included in Settings allowing users to select their preferences for answering phone calls when folded. Similarly, apps on the Microsoft Surface Duo can be selected to cover both screens when opened.
The update includes optimized quick settings and notification widths for portrait and landscape. With an update, Microsoft Surface Duo allows users to adjust media volume directly from Quick Settings, regardless of device mode.
It adds thumb mode to Microsoft SwiftKey and an updated list of applications. The Microsoft feed is getting a new look with new Microsoft Start news and weather widgets.
The changelog mentions an improved two-screen experience for viewing and editing photos in the OneDrive app on Microsoft Surface Duo. Android 11 is currently rolling out to unlocked devices in North America and Europe. Microsoft says it is testing a release for locked or unlocked AT&T Surface Duo devices and is awaiting final review.
