IPhone SE Plus release date, pricing, specs and spec rumors

The iPhone SE was launched back in May 2020, but what about the iPhone SE Plus? While there was no sign of a larger budget iPhone when initially unveiled, rumors suggest an iPhone SE Plus is in the works, which could be drastically different from the iPhone SE.

Here’s everything you need to know about iPhone SE Plus rumors, from release date and pricing rumors to the latest features and spec leaks.

When is the iPhone SE Plus coming out?

We first heard of a potential iPhone SE Plus release in December 2019 from none other than Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo, an Apple analyst, has a solid track record when it comes to Apple releases, so it’s worth taking his words seriously.

Kuo originally claimed that the iPhone SE Plus would ship sometime after the iPhone SE. In fact, Kuo has argued that the Plus model is not scheduled for release until the first half of 2021.

While it seems like the wait for the larger version of the iPhone SE is still long, Kuo’s subsequent prediction suggests that we will now have to wait even longer. According to an analyst note, Apple is likely to postpone the release of the larger model until the second half of 2021.

This was reaffirmed in late 2020 in a note to investors from Kuo, which argued that a fierce battle between four Apple suppliers over the supply of camera modules for the iPhone 13 would likely affect the preparation and production of the new SE model.

A rumor in July 2021 suggests that Apple may be gearing up to launch the next generation iPhone SE 3 in early 2022. Although the Plus model is not mentioned, it is possible that Apple could announce both the iPhone SE 3 and iPhone SE Plus at the same time. time.

How much will the iPhone SE Plus cost?

There’s no word yet on how much the iPhone SE Plus might cost, but it’s safe to say it will be cheaper than Apple’s flagship line if it retains the SE branding.

As we discuss below, the iPhone SE Plus offers some significant upgrades over the stock iPhone SE that could raise the price, but we can’t imagine Apple selling the iPhone SE at over £ 550 / $ 550 without entangling water in between. the various iPhone models currently on offer.

Considering there was a £ 100 / $ 100 difference between the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, we should expect something similar with the iPhone SE and iPhone SE Plus, but we’ll update this section if we hear anything different.

What does the iPhone SE Plus offer?

With more than a year left before the potential release, it’s no surprise that the iPhone SE Plus details aren’t great, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any information available.

Like the release date prediction, the only source of information about the iPhone SE Plus is Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Along with his initial prediction of a release date, Kuo has shared various details about the iPhone SE Plus – and it looks like it could be drastically different from the iPhone SE.

You see, the iPhone SE has the same design as the iPhone 8, with a 4.7-inch display and a single 12MP camera on the back, but Kuo suggests the iPhone SE Plus won’t copy the iPhone 8 Plus.

Instead, Kuo speculates that the iPhone SE Plus will have a 5.5-inch or 6.1-inch display and, most importantly, it will have a “full-screen design” like the iPhone 12. Although some might argue that this could destroy the iPhone 13 line, which may be available at the same time as the SE Plus, Kuo claims the SE Plus won’t have Face ID.

The lack of smart Face ID features means the notch will be smaller than what’s available in the current iPhone lineup, and while it won’t have a built-in fingerprint scanner rumored to be working on the display that Apple is allegedly working on, Kuo claims the Touch ID scanner will be built into the power button – just like the new iPad Air.

It’s not a new idea – Android counterparts have been doing it for years – but this will be the first time Apple has built a fingerprint scanner into an iPhone’s power button. It makes sense – the iPhone SE Plus only needs to press the power button once to turn on the display and unlock the iPhone. Not exactly the convenience of Face ID, but close.
