iPhone 14 performs better than iPhone 13 Pro models despite using the same chip: report

iPhone Design Director Richard Dean claims that the base iPhone 14 is a more capable phone than the more expensive iPhone 13 models and that upgrading to the iPhone 14 series would be better for users. Dean says that while the iPhone 14 looks very similar to the iPhone 13, it has undergone major design changes and its benefits may not be immediately noticeable compared to the older model. Reduced weight, cheaper and easier maintainability, and longer battery life are just some of the changes made to the new model.

IN interview Dean tells The Sydney Morning Herald that the higher performance of the base iPhone 14 is due to the fact that the newer model is less susceptible to thermal throttling. Even though they use the same chip, the standard iPhone 14 models have more consistent performance than the iPhone 13 Pro models thanks to some internal rebuilding. The design of the iPhone 14 has been drastically changed to include a central aluminum structure that serves as the base. He explained that this central structural plane promotes constant heat dissipation over the entire surface.

Dean adds that they were able to provide a larger main camera than the iPhone 13 Pro models, with a larger sensor, improved low-light performance, and an all-new rear ambient light sensor.

“This design also represents our first four-sided main logic board. [which] really compresses all the components of the iPhone 14 into a smaller space and allows us to access the board from either side, which improves maintainability,” notes iPhone Design Director.

Apple’s iPhone 13, like previous iPhone 8 models, required the display to be removed to gain access to any internal structural parts. Instead, the back glass of iPhone 14 can be removed, making repairs easier with less risk of damage. Difficult access to older phones has nearly halved the cost of fixing a screen failure, the report says.

It was also recently reported that the iPhone 14 Pro outperforms the recently released Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra in both single-core and multi-core performance.

According to leaked Geekbench estimates for a recently released Samsung smartphone, the iPhone 14 Pro is 21 percent faster in single-core performance than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. In the single-core test, the iPhone 14 Pro scored 1874 points, while the Galaxy S23 Ultra scored 1480 points.

On the multi-score test, the iPhone 14 Pro scored 5384, which is higher than the Galaxy S23 Ultra which scored 4584. According to benchmarks, Apple has a smaller (nearly 15 percent) lead over Samsung in multi-core performance compared to single-core benchmarks.
