How to know if you’ve been blocked on WhatsApp

Not getting replies to your WhatsApp messages? If only one person doesn’t answer, they may have blocked you or are simply ignoring you.

Because there are legitimate reasons to block others, such as to prevent abuse, and also for privacy reasons, you won’t know for sure if someone has been blocked on WhatsApp.

In fact, WhatApp even states on its blocking help page that “We deliberately made this ambiguous to protect your privacy when you block someone. So we can’t tell you that someone else has blocked you.”

Regardless, you still want to know if there’s a way to know if this happened, or if there’s some other explanation, like your messages aren’t getting through.

Blocking someone on WhatsApp is very easy. Just view the details of the contact, scroll down the page and select Block Contact. This is what simplicity means a little people are more likely to block others than to change their underwear. This is the digital version of Talk to Hand.

When you’re blocked on WhatsApp, all your previous conversations with that person will still show up in the Chats tab and won’t be deleted. The only reason why previous messages disappear is because the other person or you have set the messages to disappear after a certain amount of time.

People often say that the fastest way to find out if you’re blocked is to try and call that WhatsApp contact. They say that if you are blocked, the phone will not ring, but this is not true.

The phone will still ring, but the person who blocked you will not receive a notification that you tried to call them. Because of this, you have no way of knowing that they didn’t have a phone on hand to answer the call, or that they just didn’t ignore you so you don’t know anything.

Also not true is the idea that you won’t see any changes to their avatar in the future; in fact, you won’t see their avatar at all.

There are a few things you can look out for that suggest you have been blocked. If you can cross all of these items off the list, chances are you’ve been blocked on WhatsApp.

Sure Signs You’ve Been Blocked on WhatsApp

  1. The contact is ignoring all your messages and has apparently stopped talking to you.
  2. Messages sent to a contact are always marked with one check mark – they were sent, but not delivered or read.
  3. This contact no longer has a profile picture, and you’re sure it used to be

  4. When you view a contact, either by clicking on the new chat button and finding him in the list, or by clicking on his name at the top of the conversation, his WhatsApp status will be blank. If someone has never updated their WhatsApp status, they will most likely show “Hi! I use whatsapp.’
  5. You can no longer see “Last seen” or “Online” information at the top of a WhatsApp conversation.
  6. When you try to call them via whatsapp they don’t answer the call.

How to Contact the Person Who Blocked You on WhatsApp

Remember that anyone who has blocked you is not required to talk to you. They almost certainly believe that they have a good reason for not wanting to communicate.

Let’s assume it’s life or death and you absolutely need to contact this person, know that there is no way to bypass the WhatsApp block: you cannot contact him through the platform until he decides to unblock you.

However, you still have their phone number (the one they use for WhatsApp, anyway), perhaps their email address and home address, perhaps some mutual friends, or perhaps you are still friends on the social network.

Just because you are blocked on WhatsApp does not mean that they will also block you through other channels. However, remember that this does not mean that you have an open offer to harass or harass them, which could end up being a legal issue.

You may decide to talk to a mutual friend first to see if you are blocked and, if you don’t know the reason(s), find out why and what are the possible solutions to the problem.
