How to edit a tweet on Twitter

Whether you sent a misspelled tweet or used the wrong hashtag, there are always times when you want to change what you originally typed. Thankfully, the Twitter edit button is now available.
Unfortunately no free a way to edit posts on twitter. You must subscribe to Twitter Blue, a premium subscription that gives you a blue tick, as well as other benefits such as bookmark folders to organize your saved tweets, a top articles section, the ability to customize the color of your interface, and more.
You can subscribe to Twitter Blue online for $8/£8/month or via your smartphone for $11/£11/month. When the edit button was first launched, it was only available on mobile devices and in a few countries. Now it has begun to spread all over the world and can be used both in a web browser and in an iOS/Android app.
You may have to wait up to seven days for the account to be verified by a team member. In my case it took a couple of days. So it’s not a quick fix if you’ve just posted something.
Tweets can only be edited within 30 minutes of being posted, and you can do so up to five times. Also, not every type of tweet can be edited – more on that below.

We tested the process on both desktop and smartphone and the steps are the same.
Which tweets can’t be edited using the Twitter edit button?
While standard tweets are subject to change, there are exceptions. They are:
- Tweets sent more than 30 minutes ago
- retweets
- Answers
- Polls
- Tweets that were sent on a device other than the one you’re editing on
Can people see if you’ve edited a tweet?
Yes. Below the tweet, you’ll see a link highlighted in blue that says “Last edited” followed by the time and date.

If any user clicks on this, it will display different versions of your tweet. So if you don’t want people to see your previous tweet, the best way is to simply delete it and create a new one.

Can I undo a tweet?
If you send a tweet and immediately change your mind, Twitter Blue also gives you 30 seconds to hit the “Undo” button before it goes live.

You can change this to 5, 10, 20, or 60 seconds in the Twitter Blue settings, or disable it entirely.
