How to avoid price hikes on Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime users in the UK will face price hikes next week, with annual plan costs up 20 percent.
The company cites several reasons for the increase, including covering the cost of new content for Amazon Prime Video (such as investment in sports broadcasts) and the highest inflation rate in 40 years. There is also speculation that the price increase for Netflix may have contributed to the increase as well.
Amazon customers in the US received a price increase earlier this year, so the news didn’t come as a surprise. Amazon Prime customers get next-day delivery, access to flash sales, streaming TV and movies through Amazon Prime Video, e-books, music streaming, and more.
If you want to know what the prices of new Amazon Prime subscriptions in the UK will be and how not to pay them, we’ve got everything you need to know.
How much is Amazon Prime growing?
The cost of an Amazon UK Prime subscription will affect monthly, yearly, and student plans. Here’s how the price will change:
- Amazon Prime Monthly Subscription: Increased from £7.99/month to £8.99/month.
- Amazon Prime Yearly Subscription: Increased from £79/year to £95/year.
- Amazon Prime Student Monthly Subscription: Increased from £3.99/month to £4.49/month.
- Amazon Prime Student Yearly Subscription: Increased from £39 per year to £47.49.
As far as we know, Amazon will still have a 30-day free trial for standard members, as well as a six-month free trial for new customers with student plans.
So far, no increase has been confirmed for individual Amazon subscriptions (such as Amazon Prime Video or Amazon Music Unlimited). If we hear anything else, we’ll update this article.
Buy an annual subscription before price increases
Price increase will happen September 15, 2022 for both new and existing customers.
The best way to lock in lower prices and save £16 is to buy or renew an annual plan for £79 (or £39 if you’re a student). Make sure you do it before September 15, 2022.
If you haven’t signed up for Amazon Prime yet, you can do so on the website. New users can get a 30-day free trial.
