How Much Data Does Snapchat Use?

Snapchat is still one of the most popular social media apps, even if many people only use it because of the crazy photo filters. Due to its focus on images and videos, it can also be something of a data eater. We checked how much data it uses so you can make sure it doesn’t accidentally use up all your mobile data in a month.
We first installed a data usage tracking app on our phone and then used Snapchat for 5 minutes. We then calculated usage metrics for longer sessions so you can get an idea of how much data the app is getting during each day.
Here’s what we found:
- 5 minutes = 60 MB
- 15 minutes = 180 MB
- 30 minutes = 360 MB
- 45 minutes = 540 MB
- 1 hour = 720 MB
As you can see, after one hour of use, you can get about 1 GB of data from watching videos and sending pictures to your friends. Based on these numbers, if you use Snapchat for an hour a day, it will use up just over 5GB (720MB x 7) by the end of the week.
Do this for a month and you’ll get a whopping 20GB from Snapchat alone. Obviously, if you combine this with other platforms like Instagram and TikTok, you can easily swallow the distribution of data in no time.
Of course, you can try using Snapchat primarily when connected to Wi-Fi, but if you need to use it with mobile data, there are always unlimited SIM plans.
If you don’t want to pay a premium for unlimited data, there are now SIM-only plans that give you a fixed monthly allocation but allow you to use certain social media apps, including Snapchat, for as long as you want without considering that limit. , such as Voxy in the United Kingdom.
How can I make Snapchat use less data?
If you feel like the numbers above are a little high, you can always watch fewer videos or set Snapchat to use less data. This is achieved by preventing the application from automatically downloading pictures or lenses. You may also find that the application is a little slower, but with the advantage that your data is not being consumed at such a high rate.
To do this, follow these steps:
How to enable Snapchat save data on iOS
- Open Snapchat
- Click on your profile icon
- Tap the settings icon
Foundry
4. Scroll down until you find Extra Services, then click Manage.
5. Turn on the Traffic saving switch.
How to use the traffic saving feature on Android

- Click on your profile icon
- Click on the settings icon

Foundry
4. Scroll down to Privacy Control, then click Data Saver.
5. Turn on traffic saving.
Of course, one easy way to save data is to only use Snapchat when you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network, as this will keep your mobile data at bay.
