Honor has confirmed the launch of its Honor Magic V foldable phone on January 10th.
The company has sent out an official invitation to the Honor Magic V launch event on January 10th. It promises a “brand new foldable flagship.”
We’ve seen several glimpses of Honor’s new foldable device over the past month. The former Huawei sub-brand gave us a glimpse of the Magic V foldable form factor towards the end of December, hinting at a potential competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
This hint became more likely with the subsequent leaked specs of the Honor Magic V. We’re looking at the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, 120Hz foldable display, 50MP main camera sensor, and 66W fast charging.
We haven’t received confirmation of the company’s broader plans to launch the Honor Magic V, but we hope to launch in the West.
There are strong arguments for launching in the US and Europe: The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 sold very well in the second half of 2022. In addition, the whole point of the separation from Huawei in 2020 was to allow the separate Honor brand to continue to access Google Play services and thus sell them in the global market.
However, after the split, Huawei Honor is carefully making its way around the world as an independent smartphone brand. The brand did launch its latest flagship phone, the Honor 50, in the West, but just months after its domestic debut.
