Google Pixel Fold is slated to launch in the first quarter of 2023 with panels shipping in January

The launch date for the Google Pixel Fold has been leaked online ahead of the debut of the purported Google-branded Pixel foldable phone. The news comes shortly after the launch of the Pixel 7 series earlier this week, along with the company’s first smartwatch, the Pixel Watch. While enthusiasts hoped to catch a glimpse of Google’s foldable smartphone at the Made by Google presentation, the company is said to have delayed the launch of this foldable phone. The first foldable Pixel phone could arrive in the first quarter of 2023, according to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO Ross Young.

Answer to tweet Whistleblower Roland Quandt (@rquandt), when asked about the foldable Pixel phone, Young said that Google’s first foldable phone could arrive sometime in the first quarter of 2023. He also claims that the company will begin receiving shipments of panels for this phone in January.

Previous reports suggest that Google may be working on two foldable smartphones. Recently, a developer noticed a mention of a foldable smartphone codenamed “Felix” in a line of code from Google’s Android 13 Quarterly Platform Release 1 (QPR1) beta.

This foldable phone is said to be equipped with a triple rear camera including an IMX787 primary sensor, an IMX386 ultra wide angle lens, and an S5K3J1 telephoto lens. Its outer display will likely get a telephoto lens for the S5k3J1 selfie camera. Earlier this year, a foldable phone from Google also appeared, codenamed “Pipit”. The developer claims that the Tensor SoC featured in this model is already outdated.

A recent report suggests that Google’s foldable smartphone may be called Pixel Fold or Pixel Notepad. It is expected that it will be produced at the Foxconn plant in China. The launch of this smartphone was reportedly delayed earlier in May this year. It will most likely feature a 7.57-inch internal display and a 5.78-inch external display with an ultra-thin glass cover.
