According to recent reports, Oppo is working on a foldable phone that could seriously compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Samsung’s large foldable phone is one of our favorite phones of the year so far, but Oppo may well be planning to outperform its Android rival. This is according to the famous Weibo tipster. Digital chat station…
Oppo is making a phone with a foldable OLED display from 7.8 to 8 inches, according to a whistleblower. This screen will have 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. So far, so is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
The similarity continues with the claimed Snapdragon 888 processor. Given that every decent Android flagship launches this chip in 2021, that’s not much of a luck for books, but it suggests that we might see a phone soon. After all, Qualcomm is likely to release the next next generation chip by the end of the year.
Where the foldable Oppo could differentiate itself from its standout competitor is in the camera department. With a claimed 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, its main camera can probably match the Oppo Find X3 Pro.
One area where the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 didn’t quite live up to its premium price was in the camera department with less-than-stellar hardware.
This primary sensor will be accompanied by a 32MP front-facing camera, although there is no news on whether it will match the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s display gimmick. We kind of hope that this won’t happen, given how substandard it turned out to be.
The Inspector also mentions that the foldable Oppo will run ColorOS 12 on top of Android 11. Given that Android 12 is now rolling out, this again points to an imminent release.
Rumors of a foldable Oppo have been circulating for a couple of years now, but the company has previously downplayed the viability of such a project. Now we can finally see the brand make its foldable move.
