Apple launched its range for the iPhone 12 last October and time has apparently passed. We are now a few months away from the probable announcement of the iPhone 13 and we have already heard a lot of rumors about the upcoming flagship.

Apple has provided improvements across the board with the iPhone 12. Composed by the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max and all new iPhone Mini, the 2020 line offered a more Pro-level experience in its base model and a smaller option for those looking for a truly pocket-sized phone in the Mini.

While we have a few months until the much-anticipated launch of the iPhone 13, we already see a fair amount of losses that give us a lot to speculate about the iPhone 13 (or the iPhone 12s?). The latest rumors include new display technology, larger batteries and the return of TouchID.

The iPhone 13 is expected to launch towards the end of 2021, both in September and October.

Traditionally, we expect Apple to unveil its flagship in September. However, after the pandemic delayed last year’s iPhone 12 to October 13, it’s unclear whether Apple will return to its usual calendar for 2021.

Wedbush analyst Dan Ives (via Barrons) predicts that we will see an announcement that will take place in the third week of September. While Ives did not give an exact date, Technical Radar did the math and calculated that, based on Apple’s tendency to hold launch events on Tuesday, we could see the launch take place on September 14th, followed by pre-orders opening on September 17th and the device officially shipped September 24th.

As for the display itself, Jon Prosser’s Front Page Tech believes that the iPhone 13 will definitely receive LTPO screens, allowing Apple to include a 120Hz refresh rate on its ProMotion screen. Apple currently uses LTPO technology to allow their Apple Watch 6 to display a display still on display and we’ve seen it used in some more recent best android phones, as the OnePlus 9 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

This was supported by influential analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claims that both technologies are coming to some versions of the iPhone 13.

Further evidence for the move to LTPO comes from a DigiTimes report, which reports both Samsung and LG Display are converting part of their production into LTPO display manufacturing for Apple. The report (via MacRumors) also claims that these displays are more efficient, with 15-20% less power required.

Leaker Max Weinbach (via YouTube channel All ApplePro) also believes that we can see an ever-present exhibition this year. Weinbach says the clock and battery icons will be visible on the display even when it is off. You can even view your incoming notifications this way, with all the display you no longer need to turn on.

Apple could also renew its connectivity features, with a rumor of one return to TouchID alongside the iPhone’s existing Face ID capabilities. On March 12, Barclays analyst Andrew Gardiner added his voice to the chorus waiting for this to arrive on the iPhone 13.

Kuo (via MacRumors) also believes that the iPhone 13’s range will come with a larger battery pack, made possible by some space efficiency in the phone. This will include the integration of the e-SIM into the logic board and the cutting-edge of Face ID components, says Kuo.

  • The stain could eventually become smaller

In a new note to investors (via MacRumors) Kuo wrote: “If the iPhone abandons Lightning in the future, it can directly adopt the portless design with MagSafe support instead of using a USB-C port. Today, the MagSafe ecosystem is not mature enough, so l ‘iPhone will continue to use the Lightning port in the foreseeable future.’

We haven’t heard from major updates to Apple’s flagship camera.
