After moving to the virtual marketplace last year, CES returned to a personal event in Las Vegas for 2022 – albeit a smaller size, with reduced capacity and a few notable absences (including ourselves, as we covered the entire event from home).
That said, that didn’t mean the launches were quieter – and in fact it was one of the most immersive CES shows in years.
Intel, Nvidia, and AMD all came up with new processors and GPUs (and OEMs, as you’d expect, followed with a host of exciting laptops); Samsung, OnePlus, TCL and Nokia came with smartphones; and Sony even decided to accidentally publish the full specification for the PlayStation VR2 headset.
So, without further ado and in no particular order, here are 15 winners of Tech Advisor’s Best in Show competition at CES 2022.
Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED
Asus was the latest company to dive into the foldable world. The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is a 17.3-inch tablet that folds in half for two 12.5-inch screens. It is currently the largest foldable Windows platform and only second after Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Fold.
But Asus wants it to completely replace your laptop, with the ability to connect a dedicated Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad to work on a desktop computer. Powered by a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, along with 16GB of RAM and a 75Wh battery, this is the first foldable platform confirmed for the Intel Evo platform for high-performance devices.
Okay, it has a silly name, but it’s nice to finally see some rivals in Samsung’s TV lineup, and the LG Objet is particularly interesting. The hinged design (which can also be wall-mounted) has a moving fabric cover so you can hide part or all of the screen.
While not in use, it can display things like illustrations, as well as music playback, clock and date. The Objet will be available in a variety of colors with a 65-inch OLED panel.
12th Gen Intel Laptop Processors
After years of iterative updates, Intel’s new laptop processors have gone through a lot of changes. Alder Lake is moving to a new hybrid architecture with the ability to dynamically switch between performance and energy efficiency cores to match your workload.
With a total of 28 processors in three different categories, there is a new Intel chip for Windows devices of every shape and size. The company is also aiming for the fastest deployment possible, with several Alder Lake-powered laptops announced at CES and many more coming soon.
OnePlus didn’t quite go that far to officially launch the OnePlus 10 Pro flagship at CES, but by revealing the design and specs and also announcing the launch in China next week, it basically got all the work done.
The striking new design is paired with battery and charging upgrades, a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and an updated camera with additional assistance from Hasselblad. We can’t wait to see how it holds up when we receive it.
Now that the PlayStation 5 is one year old, Sony has shifted its focus to its upcoming PlayStation VR2 headset. The company teased its existence in the past and even gave us a first look at the redesigned Sense controllers, but it was at CES that we finally learned about the specs of the headset itself – and that sounds impressive.
Visuals are rendered through a 4K OLED HDR display with 2000×2040 per eye resolution and 90 or 120Hz refresh rates depending on the app or game you’re playing.
There’s also an updated inside-out tracking system, easier single-cable hookups, and even haptic feedback to help provide a more immersive experience by simulating heartbeats or bullets streaking past.
Compared to the first generation headset, this is a phenomenal upgrade.
Nvidia RTX 3080Ti for laptops
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti for laptops represents a huge leap forward in laptop graphics performance. This is the first time Nvidia has released the ’80 Ti ‘variant and the branding is well deserved.
In fact, Nvidia claims that 16GB of GDDR6 RTX 3080 Ti memory delivers similar graphics performance to the GeForce RTX Titan, a $ 2,500 desktop GPU released in late 2018, which is great news for gamers and creatives alike. …
While the latest desktop cards are still more powerful, the RTX 3080 Ti for laptops is closing the gap significantly.
Asus ROG Flow Z13 with XG eGPU
The Asus ROG Flow Z13 is a special tablet. While you can’t run AAA PC games on Apple’s top iPad Pro, the combination of a 12th Gen Intel H-series chip and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3050 powering the 13-inch ROG Flow Z13 delivers true mobile gaming without compromise. …
But it’s not just a tablet; The clamshell case turns it into a hybrid laptop, but more impressive is the (optional) Asus XG eGPU. Connected via a proprietary cable, the Asus XG and its RTX desktop graphics card can be used on the desktop, delivering desktop-like performance for work and play, as well as additional connectivity options.
Better late than never, huh? We might have expected the Galaxy S21 FE to launch last year, but at least the new phone unveiled at CES and going on sale since January 11 looks appropriate.
With a colorful design reminiscent of the original S21 series and strong performance close to its flagship siblings, this could be the Goldilocks S21 – even if we really wanted it to be a little cheaper.
Jabra may not be as well known as Samsung and Sony, but it has always been a strong competitor in the headphone space, and the release of the Elite 4 Active headphones is a prime example of why.
Built for workouts, these earphones are ergonomically designed and rated to IP57. They also feature ANC (Active Noise Canceling), Jabra HearThrough technology and up to 28 hours of battery life when using the charging case.
The most impressive thing is the £ 119 / $ 119 price tag, making them one of the best fitness headphones around.
The next important thing for a smart home scale is segment analysis, in which body composition measurements are given for specific parts of the body, such as the torso, arms and legs. The Withings Body Scan has a retractable handle with four additional electrodes that not only allows for more detailed and accurate body composition analysis, but also acts as a 6-lead ECG.
This heart health technology builds on Withings’ current vascular age reading and detects any disturbing heart rate patterns. Service subscribers in certain regions will also be able to share readings and measurements with instructors and healthcare professionals.
Lenovo ThinkBook Plus (third generation)
The latest ThinkBook Plus brings some of the most significant memory changes from generation to generation, introducing a new approach to dual-screen multitasking.
The external auxiliary display for e-ink has disappeared and has been replaced by a new 8-inch LCD panel integrated next to the keyboard. It is fully compatible with Windows 11 and has a built-in stylus, which means you can use it to take notes, edit images, or mirror your smartphone screen.
The main 17.3-inch 120Hz display has a 21:10 ultra-wide aspect ratio to accommodate an additional panel, and you’ll find new Intel processors under the hood as well.
While Sony unveiled its first mini LED kits this year, it was the Master A95K series that piqued our particular interest. Quantum dots and OLED technologies themselves are nothing new, but this is the first time we see them together.
It promises the best of both worlds with wider color reproduction and up to 200% better brightness than conventional TVs. The A95K looks amazing and packs a ton of features, including a new Bravia Cam for things like gesture controls, automatic settings, and video calling.
Along with updates to existing X and M series laptops, one of Alienware’s largest machines at CES 2022 revealed that it was one of the smallest machines. The Alienware X14 has the same features and capabilities as the existing X15 and X17, but scales up to a 144Hz Full HD 14-inch ComfortView Plus display with a 7ms response time.
Inside is a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and a choice of Nvidia RTX 3050, 3050 Ti or 3060 GPUs; not bad for the fact that Alienware claims it is the world’s thinnest gaming laptop.
Featuring six display ports, the new Plugable Laptop Docking Station offers unparalleled monitor flexibility for a USB consumer docking station and eliminates the need for any additional display adapters.
This CES star doubles the monitor connections of competing consumer docking stations.
The USB-C Triple 4K HDMI and Horizontal DisplayPort Dock (UD-6950PDZ) has 15 ports and can support three external 4K 60Hz displays over Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 using a combination of display technologies.
There are also six USB-A and Gigabit Ethernet ports for wired internet access.
The UD-6950PDZ will be available for purchase in the spring for $ 249.
DVRs are becoming more popular because they provide undeniable proof of what actually happened in the event of an incident. However, Nextbase’s iQ doesn’t just record video: it is a much more useful security device for your vehicle than a regular dash cam.
For starters, its three cameras capture all-round visibility, including the car’s interior, but in fact, the fact that it’s connected makes it a better fit than the competition. The footage can not only be uploaded directly to the cloud, but also remotely view the stream from all three cameras on the phone, just like from a home security camera.
It will also alert you to important traffic or movement, such as when another car bumps into your parked car, and you can track your vehicle’s location in real time.
With a host of other driver safety features, the iQ deserves the Best of CES 2022 award.
