Best cloud storage services in 2022

11. Internxt – Best Free End-to-End Encrypted Cloud Storage

Internxt is one of the newest cloud storage services that has been around since 2020. Unlike many of its competitors, it is built around privacy and doesn’t store your files in a centralized data center where they can be vulnerable to hacking.

Instead, they are broken up into small pieces and distributed across many different devices in a so-called peer-to-peer network. All this is encrypted with end-to-end encryption, and Internxt itself has “zero knowledge”. This means that only you can access your files, and no one else – no one except those who put fragments of your files on their hard drive, and certainly not Internxt.

The code used to run Internxt is open source and the system is built on the blockchain.

You don’t need to understand all the jargon: Internxt works just like other cloud storage services: you can upload files, access them on other devices, share them with other people, and more.

However, there is also a downside. Interxt is very simple. Apart from uploading and sharing files, there is nothing else you can do. Click on most file types (including Microsoft Word documents) and you’ll see a “File Preview is not available” message. However, you can view JPG and PNG images.

In addition to using the service in a web browser, you can download applications for mobile devices and computers.

They allow you to choose whether to sync or back up files from your devices. Sync by default: This means that if you delete a file from the corresponding folder on your device, it will be deleted in the cloud – and vice versa.

Backups, on the other hand, allow you to select specific folders and files to back up: they won’t be deleted if you intentionally or accidentally delete them from your device.

Photo service is now included with Internxt Drive. It is presented as a safe alternative to Google Photos that keeps your photo library in sync across your devices.

Unfortunately, the only similarity between the two is that they display your photos in date order. There’s no search, no option to edit photos, and of course no advanced features like facial recognition or the ability to see where the photo was taken, or any details of the photo.

At the time of writing, there wasn’t even a background sync, so the photos didn’t download from the phone (or iPad, or laptop) in the background. The application must be open on the screen. We are told that it will be soon.

Another thing to keep in mind is that photo browsing can be quite slow, presumably due to the way files are stored on this peer-to-peer network. The company says that download speeds have been improved recently.

In terms of pricing: 20GB is 0.89c/89p/month, 200GB is $3.49/£3.49/month, and 2TB is $8.99/£8.99/month. month.

You can also use Internxt for free. You get 2GB as standard, expandable up to 10GB by downloading the mobile app, asking friends to sign up – you know how.

bottom line: A very secure yet very simple cloud storage service.
