Belkin commits to using new sustainable material for better products

Belkin, a renowned brand in the world of smartphone accessories and chargers, today announced changes to the materials used in many of its most popular products to make them more sustainable.
The company said the new material intended to line many of its products is 73-75% recycled plastic (PCR), which essentially takes plastic waste from consumers destined for landfill and turns it into something useful. . This is something we can all fall behind as some 347 tons of single-use plastic will end up in landfills in 2021.
In the same vein, the company will also phase out all plastic in packaging, further reducing the amount of material used – an especially smart move when packaging is usually thrown away immediately after unpacking.
Together, Belkin estimates these changes will save 7,000 metric tons of carbon emissions and reduce product-specific CO2e emissions by a whopping 67%. This is definitely a big change and it will take some time – Belkin plans to implement changes in 2023 to achieve 100% zero carbon by 2023.
The question is, which Belkin products get a more responsible, environmentally friendly material? The accessory manufacturer has confirmed that the following products will ship with the new PCR material in the first half of 2023, with more coming later this year:
Do not expect the quality or durability of Belkin products using the new PCR material to be anything different from what is currently available, as Belkin states that there is “little difference between existing Belkin products and Belkin PCR products.” “.
In fact, the only gift that it’s made from recycled materials should be packaging that says “Made from recycled plastic products” and “100% plastic-free packaging” on the box.
“When we think about the impact a company of our size and influence can have on the planet, moving away from virgin plastics in our products is an obvious choice,” said Belkin CEO Steve Maloney.
