Armor Wars news, rumors, cast and release date

After years of waiting as Tony Stark’s sidekick, Rhodey (aka “War Machine”), the moment has finally arrived. Don Cheadle will star in Armor Wars, another upcoming series for the Marvel brand on Disney Plus.

Armor Wars release date

Unfortunately, we don’t know yet when Armor Wars will be released. Armor Wars was not listed on the Phase 5 or Phase 6 MCU schedule.

Don Cheadle will star in Secret Invasion, which will air early next year. The two shows are ostensibly linked, so we’re guessing we’ll see Armor Wars sometime around 2024 – though that’s purely speculation.

Cast and crew of Armor Wars

Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ahead

The only person who has confirmed his role in Armor Wars so far is Don Cheadle as James Rhodes. We last saw Rhodey in the MCU in a cameo in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, discussing with Sam Wilson what it means to wield the iconic shield. Rhodey was clearly still mourning the loss of his best friend Tony.

The title of the series is a reference to the comic book arc, which could mean that Justin Hammer (played by Sam Rockwell) will appear. Hammer was last seen in Iron Man 2 and his return is long overdue.

There’s also speculation that Sharon Carter (played by Emily VanCamp) could appear on the show after her roles in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Dominic Thorne’s Riri Williams could also be a contender, as she’ll be starring in Ironheart, another armor show.

According to Deadline, Yasser Lester has been named head writer. Lester currently stars alongside Cheadle on the Showtime series Black Monday.

Armor Wars plot

Not much is known about the plot of Armor Wars yet. However, the comic book series of the same name focuses on what happens if Tony Stark’s costumes fall into the wrong hands.

In the post-Endgame era, there’s a lot of Tony’s technology to capture. We imagine that Rhodey will protect suits and technology, but from whom? In the comics, this is Justin Hammer, but since the last Disney+ series featured Sharon Carter as a power broker, we could also see that she is possibly the antagonist.

Marvel Studios shared a brief teaser of the show in a D23 press release:

Fans of Rhodey will see the character in a whole new light, and given the name of the show, viewers can look forward to brand new costumes for the character with different types of armor.
