Apple supplier Foxconn suspends production at 2 factories in China due to the spread of COVID-19

Apple’s main supplier, Foxconn Technology Group, has suspended operations at two of its factories in eastern China’s Kunshan after new cases of COVID-19 were reported, the South China Morning Post reported on Monday.

The report says that work at these plants has been suspended since Wednesday last week and all employees are in dormitories inside.

Foxconn’s two factories, located in Dianfe and Fuhong in northern Kunshan, are two of four manufacturing campuses operated in the city by a Taiwanese firm also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd.

Apple and Foxconn did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Due to the spread of the virus, several other factories have also faced closures.

Earlier this month, another Apple parts supplier, Pegatron, had to suspend operations at two of its factories located in Shanghai and Kunshen in China. The Chinese government has introduced strict regulations to curb the spread of COVID-19, which has spread widely across the country. Other manufacturers have also had to suspend operations, but some companies such as Unmicron have announced that they will partially resume operations.
