New online courses and certifications for support, deployment, and management of Apple devices prepare workers for on-demand careers
The demand for skilled support and technical personnel in the company is growing, with employment in computer and information systems in particular projected to grow faster than average for all occupations from 2020 to 2030.1 As businesses expand their use of technology, employees are demanding the use of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac at work, resulting in an increased need for skilled IT professionals in support and management. To help meet this growing demand, Apple has today launched updated professional training and certifications for IT support and management. Two new Apple Vocational Training courses – Apple Device Support, and Apple Deployment and Management – are available today training.apple.com. Courses are sequential, and build on skills and concepts as users progress. At the end of each course, new certification exams are available to demonstrate proficiency at each level with corresponding digital badges from Apple. Each exam costs $ 149, and certification can be posted on resumes, online profiles, and jobs, allowing users to jump into job searches – and employers to find qualified candidates.2

Apple’s new IT training series begins with the Apple Device Support course. Through guided articles and exercises, the course covers the tools, services, and best practices used by an organization’s support teacher, technical coordinator, or service provider for an organization’s Mac, iPhone, and iPad users. After completing about 14 hours of learning content, users can take an exam to earn the Apple Certified Support Professional certification.
The second level of training in the IT series is the Apple Deployment and Management course, which covers how to configure, manage, and secure Apple products with mobile device management (MDM). Through an estimated 13 hours of content, users will cover the development of an implementation strategy, using Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager, and configure devices with an MDM solution. Upon successful completion of the exam, users will receive Apple Certified IT Professional certification.4
To help those entering the workforce or change careers, Apple is partnering with community colleges and universities to offer on-campus preparation courses for the Apple Certified IT Professional badge. Through its Community Education Initiative (CEI), Apple will provide scholarships to cover the cost of exams for students participating in its CEI partner institutions. Apple first worked with Austin Community College in Austin, Texas, to offer the Apple implementation course in early 2020, and is expanding to Maricopa Community Colleges in Chandler and Mesa, Arizona, this summer, with additional CEI schools to be announced. Ed Farm, a nonprofit based in Birmingham, Alabama, is also offering preparation courses for Apple certification exams this summer due to the ongoing partnership of the nonprofit partnership with Apple.
Apple has also partnered with the Mac Admins Foundation to provide additional access to Apple’s new exams. With Apple’s subscription, the foundation offers vouchers to candidates with financial needs. As a new 501 (c) (3) organization, two key principles of the Mac Admins Foundation make the organization welcoming and accessible to expand the profession, and maintain accessible access to all community resources.
