Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 16, is scheduled to arrive on iPhone models and smartwatches on September 12. The Cupertino giant announced the release date during Wednesday’s Far Out event. The software update brings improvements and plenty of customization options. With iOS 16, the company is adding focus mode, a new lock screen, and additional levels of privacy to the Hidden and Recently Deleted albums as it requires users to access those albums with a passcode or biometrics. Similarly, tactile keyboard functionality will be coming to the iPhone keyboard with iOS 16. The iOS 16 update adds new features to Messages, SharePlay, Notifications, Maps, Safari, Wallet and more. Apple announced iOS 16 in June at the 2022 Worldwide Developers Conference and released a public beta in July.
In the midst of the launch of the iPhone 14 series, Apple announced that its new iOS 16 software will be released on September 12th. It will be available on iPhone 8 or later, and iPhone SE 2nd and 3rd generation models.

iOS 16 Features
The iOS 16 update introduces a redesigned lock screen with more personalization features. Users can access a wallpaper gallery with suggested photos and thematic collections for inspiration. It also allows users to customize fonts for the time and date and add lock screen widgets for the weather, alarm, activity rings, and calendar.
Apple iOS 16 moves notifications and alerts to the bottom of the display, making them easier to tap and view with one hand. Users can also check multiple apps from the lock screen, according to Apple. With a new tool called Live Action, users can see what’s happening in real time from the lock screen. Online activities allow you to track the progress of your food delivery or use Now Playing controls without unlocking your device.
Focus Mode can be accessed from the lock screen in iOS 16 by swiping on the lock screen. iOS 16 lets you edit a sent message, or even completely undo a recent message. You can also mark a message as unread if you can’t reply to it right away. Share notes, presentations, reminders, Safari tab groups, and more that are added to collaboration messages.
The iOS 16 update includes iCloud Photo Sharing Library, allowing users to share photos with up to five other users. It also allows users to select photos of specific people from a photo library or a specific date range. After setting up a shared library, users can also instantly share photos directly from the camera.
The email scheduling feature is coming to the Mail app in iOS 16. In addition, users can cancel sending an email before it is delivered to the recipient’s inbox.
Passcodes are a new login method that will allow users to access apps and websites using Touch ID and Face ID. Apple also provides privacy levels for Hidden and Recently Deleted albums. It obliges users to access these albums with an access code or biometrics. SharePlay, which lets you watch a movie in sync with a friend, will also be coming to Messages with iOS 16.
iOS 16 introduces a new way of dictation with voice and keyboard support for typing and editing text. Automatic punctuation inserts commas, periods, emojis and question marks as you wish.
Key and ID sharing is getting more support in Apple Wallet, allowing users to share IDs for identity and age verification. Keys can be transferred to Wallet using messages, mail and WhatsApp. Apple has also greatly improved its Maps app with 3D visuals and multi-step navigation. It will also allow users to check public transport fares.
In iOS 16, the updated Visual Search feature allows users to tap and hold on an image object to separate it from the background, or isolate an object by removing the background and placing it in apps like Messages. This feature works with Photos, Screenshots, Quick View, and Safari. Similarly, iOS is adding tactile keyboard support. With this update, iPhone users will experience a slight vibration from the Taptic Engine when they press a key on the virtual keyboard.
