Apple Introduces Self-Service iPhone Repair Toolkit

Apple has unveiled a rental tool kit that allows users to easily repair their iPhone as part of a self-service repair program that launched earlier this week for iPhone users in the US and will launch in Europe later this year. The kit comes in different versions – depending on the iPhone model you are going to repair. Each tool kit contains a complete set of tools needed to repair the selected iPhone, the company said. Users can keep the toolbox with them for up to seven days.

In stock on the self-service store website, the iPhone repair tool kit is available for a weekly rental price of $49 (roughly Rs. 3,800). Apple has loaned different versions of the tool kit for each iPhone model that can be repaired through the self-service repair program, namely iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone SE (2022).

Each set of tools comes in boxes 20″ wide and 47″ high when stacked. For iPhone SE (2022), the tool kit is available in one case, while for other eligible iPhone models, it is available in two cases.

The cases are not light. Apple said that one box in the toolbox weighed 43 pounds (19.50 kg) and the other 36 pounds (16.33 kg). Luckily, every suitcase has roller wheels.

In terms of tools, the kit includes components such as heated display remover, heated display pocket, battery press, display press, adhesive cutter, display and back cover protectors, screwdrivers and bits. All this is what you may need during self-repair.

After completing the work, you need to send the rented tool kit back. Apple may charge you additional fees in addition to the rental you paid if any of the tools are missing or damaged. It is also stated that each tool kit is tested before being sent to the customer to avoid any kind of failure.

The self-repair program, which was announced in November, is currently limited to iPhone users in the US. It also has repairs limited to areas including the battery, speaker, camera, display, and SIM tray.
