Apple and Google to reportedly release 5G update for iPhone and Pixel devices by December

Apple has yet to start rolling out 5G services to iPhone 12 and above. According to an update on the Bharti Airtel website, Apple has yet to update its software for iPhone 12 and above users. So far, there has been no official word on the expected timeline for when Apple will bring the 5G upgrade to users. However, it has now been revealed that Apple will make the necessary changes by December of this year with the release of a new iOS update.

According to the report ET Telecom, citing people familiar with the matter, Apple is targeting a 5G service update on iPhone 12 and up devices by December. This may be accompanied by an iOS update for Apple smartphones.

Apple is reportedly testing its devices for Airtel 5G services in metropolitan areas such as Delhi and Mumbai. The Cupertino-based giant is also reportedly conducting tests to roll out 5G on the Jio network. However, there has been no official confirmation from Apple or Airtel yet.

The report also states that Google Pixel smartphones will bring 5G services to users through a software update in December. Meanwhile, as mentioned in Airtel Web site, a number of 5G-enabled smartphones on Airtel’s network have yet to receive an official update to roll out 5G on devices. Some of these companies include Samsung, Motorola, Asus, Honor, Lava, LG, Nokia, and Tecno.

On Wednesday, representatives from the Department of Communications (DoT) and MeitY will meet with telecom operators and smartphone manufacturers to discuss the widespread use of 5G services in the country. The meeting will also be attended by representatives of Apple and Samsung. The secretaries of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will chair the meeting to discuss 5G issues.

The agenda of the meeting is dedicated to discussing how phones can start supporting 5G services on 5G networks in India.
