Walmart Hires Ochsner Health CEO

Walmart has hired Ochsner Health CEO Dr. David Carmusch to lead the omnichannel service organization.

Carmouche was president of the Ochsner Health Network, where he oversaw 2,700 physicians in 34 hospitals, and vice president of care and network operations for the health care system in New Orleans. Carmouche will join Walmart as the retailer restructures its healthcare offering. Business Insider First reported rental.

Carmouche helped coordinate a direct contractual agreement between Ochsner Health and Walmart in 2018, which includes approximately 6,600 Walmart and Sam’s Club employees in Louisiana. Walmart is steadily expanding its direct contracts with hospitals and physician groups to encourage employees to choose suppliers.

The retail giant is also opening larger primary health care centers in its stores. These clinics provide chronic health care, emergency care, mental health counseling, and dental, visual and auditory services. These locations also offer laboratory services, X-rays and diagnostics through a joint venture with Quest Diagnostics.

Walmart recently partnered with Transcarent, which offers alternative opinions, drug reviews, and referrals to surgical centers and centers of excellence to over 100 self-insured employers.

In May, the retailer acquired telemedicine service provider MeMD, which will be featured at Walmart Medical Centers as a complement to personal care.
