Three people were killed in a shooting at the Tulsa Medical Building on the hospital campus Wednesday, according to a police captain.
Captain Richard Meulenberg confirmed the death toll. Meulenberg said the shooter was also dead.
It is not clear how the shooter died.
“Officers are currently going around every room in the building checking for additional threats,” the police said in a Facebook post shortly before 6 p.m. “We know there are numerous injuries and possibly a few casualties.”
Meulenberg also said that several people were injured and that there was a “catastrophic scene” in the medical complex.
The St. Francis Health System locked down its campus on Wednesday afternoon due to the situation in the Natalie Medical Building. The Natalie building houses an outpatient surgery center and a breast health center.
Footage from a television helicopter shows how rescuers take someone on a stretcher away from the hospital building.
Dozens of police cars could be seen outside the hospital complex, and authorities blocked traffic during the investigation.
A reunion center where families can find their loved ones has been set up at a nearby high school.
Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also at the scene, the spokesman said.
