OU Health appoints first CEO

Dr. Richard Lofgren has been named CEO of OU Health, announced on Friday as an integrated academic healthcare system.

Lofgren, a longtime chief executive of UC Health in Cincinnati, will lead the newly formed OU Health, which was created last year after the merger of OU Medicine’s hospitals and affiliated physicians. Prior to joining UC Health, Lofgren was the leader of the University HealthSystem Consortium, which has since been acquired by group purchasing organization Vizient.

“Through Dr. Lofgren’s leadership and deep commitment to academic healthcare, we are well positioned to optimize all three components of our mission—patient care, research, and education—to improve the health of all Oklahoma residents.” — Joseph Harroz Jr. , president of OU and board member of OU Health, the press release said.

Oklahoma Medical University bought out HCA Healthcare’s management agreement and stake in hospital facilities for $750 million in 2018.

OU Health in Oklahoma City recorded operating loss of $27 million on revenue of $1.4 billion in 2021 compared to $40.2 million in operating income on revenue of $1.3 billion in 2020. As of June last year, the healthcare system received $109.9 million in grants to fight COVID-19.
