North Carolina doctor charged with altering medical equipment

A federal grand jury has indicted a North Carolina physician charged with recycling medical devices for reuse and a Medicare ransom of more than $ 46 million, according to a federal attorney.
US Attorney Michael Easley said that, according to the surrogate indictment, between 2014 and 2018, 58-year-old Anita Louise Jackson billed Medicare more than $ 46 million for more than 1,200 balloon sinuplasty allegedly performed on more than 700 patients. Her practice received more than $ 5.4 million for services.

For a four-year period, authorities said Jackson was the highest paid supplier of balloon sinuplasty in the United States, despite her practice being outside a major metropolis.
According to the press release, Jackson faces multiple charges, including tampering with medical devices, false claims of medical benefits, and mail fraud.
