New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio must announce new policies that require all unvaccinated employees of the city’s health sites to get weekly COVID-19 tests in an effort to curb the latest growth in cases.

The new policy, scheduled to be announced Wednesday, will go into effect in August and will not send vaccinations.

The requirement to be tested weekly will cover nearly 40% of the 30,000 workers in the New York City Health + Hospital system who will also be vaccinated, according to a health system spokesman.

The policy comes as cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 spread across the city, accounting for 41% of cases tested in the last four weeks, according to the New York City Department of Health.
