Louisiana revoked nursing home licenses after death

BATTON ROUGE, Louisiana (AP) – Louisiana health officials announced Tuesday that they are revoking licenses for seven nursing homes that were evacuated to a warehouse where seven residents died after Hurricane Ida in dire conditions. Department of Health Secretary Dr. Courtney N. Phillips said in a statement that the homes “clearly did not meet their emergency preparedness plans to provide their residents with the help and services they need.”

State health officials began investigating the deaths at a warehouse in Tangipahoa County, where 843 residents from seven active medical facilities were sent, before Ida roared ashore in southeast Louisiana on August 29.
