LifePoint Health Launches Medical Technology Incubator

LifePoint Health teams up with venture studio 25madison and Apollo Global Management to launch incubator for startups for medical technology in Nashville, according to a press release Tuesday.

The new venture, dubbed Health 25M, will open with $ 20M in seed funding. The companies hope that combining LifePoint’s healthcare expertise with 25madison startups’ expertise will help spur a wave of innovative companies, products and services to improve healthcare quality, patient accessibility and outcomes, while reducing costs.

LifePoint has previously invested in others digital health companies including Cadence, Eon and Loyal Health. But 25m Health will allow the healthcare giant to invest in new businesses, products and services, especially those that address the challenges faced by LifePoint and other rural providers.

“These solutions will be tailored for our communities as we listen to our caregivers and address their pain points,” said David Dill, CEO of LifePoint Health.

In recent years, healthcare systems have partnered with seasoned venture capitalists to help launch new startups. For example, New York’s Northwell Health recently announced joint venture with Aegis to create and launch medical startups using artificial intelligence. They hope to capitalize on the growing digital health market and develop new products and services to streamline operations as they progressively modernize their healthcare delivery system.

Venture capitalists have invested a record $ 23 billion in digital health for the first nine months of 2021, according to data from Digital Health Business & Technology. This is 118% more compared to the same period last year. More than 2,100 investors poured money into digital health during the first three quarters of the year, significantly more than the roughly 1,500 investors who did so in the first nine months of 2020.
