LCMC Health to buy 3 HCA Healthcare hospitals

LCMC Health, in partnership with Tulane University in Louisiana, has agreed to buy three hospitals from HCA Healthcare in Nashville, Tennessee for an undisclosed amount.

If the agreement is approved, Tulane Medical Center, Tulane Lakeside Hospital, and Lakeview Regional Medical Center will become part of the LCMC in New Orleans. The LCMC said employees at the three businesses will retain jobs as well as “enhanced opportunities for growth and promotion.”

The deal, which is expected to close later this year or early next year, will promote academic collaboration with Tulane University and Louisiana State University and expand the region’s access to specialized care, LCMC CEO Greg Feirn said in a press release. It also moves three hospitals from commercial to non-commercial ownership.

Over the next two years, most of the services provided at Tulane Medical Center will move to East Jefferson General Hospital and the University of New Orleans Medical Center. LCMC also agreed to invest $220 million in three hospitals for facilities and equipment, and to attract more professionals.

Tulane University plans to renovate the Charity Hospital building and repurpose the Tulane Medical Center. The proposed project includes a new research space, a new nursing program, clinical research programs, and graduate programs.
