Jobs Report: Health Care Employment Trends in 4 Charts

As the hiring rate is constantly rising, the job prospects in healthcare are brighter than in some other industries. However, some industries continue to suffer from labor shortages and recruitment problems.

Since the start of the pandemic, most healthcare areas have seen average hiring growth annually, outweighing slight month-to-month fluctuations and above pre-pandemic levels.

According to estimates based on data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 450,000 jobs were created in the industry from 2020 to 2022.

However, hiring rates in nursing homes and residential institutions remain extremely low compared to pre-pandemic levels. The sector continued to struggle with recruiting and retaining enough staff to effectively care for patients.

Some hospitals have set up their own recruitment agencies and stepped up their recruitment efforts to fill vacancies.
