Intermountain Health promotes Nannette Berensen to chief operating officer

Intermountain Health has named Nannette Berensen as chief operating officer, the non-profit integrated health system announced Thursday.
Berensen takes a six-year senior management position held by Intermountain president and chief executive officer Rob Allen, who moved from chief operating officer to the top job on December 1.
“There are huge challenges facing healthcare that will require the collective wisdom and efforts of all of us to position Intermountain Health for future success. I am confident that by working together we will succeed,” Berensen said in a press release.
Allen has replaced Interim President and CEO Lydia Jumonville, who will serve as Executive Sponsor of Integration for Intermountain until her retirement at the end of the year. Former CEO Dr. Mark Harrison left the Salt Lake City company in August to join venture capital firm General Catalyst.
Berensen has held a number of positions at Intermountain Health for over 17 years. Prior to her promotion, she was Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Clinical Shared Services.
“I have the utmost respect and trust for Nannett, who has demonstrated a unique ability to innovate, bring teams together and improve the patient experience,” Allen said in a press release.
Intermountain Health’s third-quarter net income was $2.16 billion, according to an unaudited financial report released in November. The health care system has 33 hospitals and 385 clinics employing about 60,000 people.
