Gabrielle Union says she was threatened by neo-Nazis in Croatia

In her recently released memoir, Gabrielle Union details how a trip to the filming locations of Game of Thrones in Croatia turned into a harrowing racist encounter.
“We just wanted to get out of King’s Landing alive,” Union said in her book, “Do You Have Anything Stronger?”
In 2019, the “LA’s Finest” star attended an industrial convention in Dubrovnik when she and her friends decided to take an impromptu pop culture tour. As Game of Thrones fans, the group thought it would be fun to take a walk. old part of town it served as the backdrop for many scenes in the HBO series.
Some hesitation arose when Union and her team ran into a group of teenagers who made racist comments about them, the actress recalled in her book. But Union and her friends continued, enjoying photo shoots during their self-guided tour.
Union wrote that they eventually found what they thought was a gay bar (due to some rainbow decor outside) and decided to go out for a drink. But it took only a few minutes to realize that they were not expected here.
“The whole place was covered in racist decorations like trophies from past murders,” Union wrote in his memoir.

Union and her friends realized that the bar was “covered in Jim Crow memorabilia,” all recognizable as visuals imported from America. “Black moms and jockeys,” she clarified. She recalled that while in the bathroom, one of Union’s friends was called an insult.
While Union and her friends tried to play in cold blood, the two men raised their sleeves to show their swastika tattoos. When Union and her friends took the hint and decided to leave, she wrote, they were followed by neo-Nazis and their threats. At one point, while the “skinheads” were still following them, Union saw a police officer and thought he could help them, she said.
“He turned. He glanced mockingly at the men behind us, ”wrote Union. “Then he turned away.”
After Union and her friends “escaped through the gates of King’s Landing” (which means they finally found themselves outside the walls of the old city), she remembered that the men had stopped following them.
Union said it was difficult to think about the “truth” of the situation.
“You are in the minority. And you’re not trying to die in a fucking Croatian bar in fucking Kings Harbor, ”said Union.

“We think we are post-racial, but we are not,” Union told people in an interview about the experience of Croatia. “And this cannot but cause disappointment. I don’t think people understand the violence associated with racism, whether it’s stalking or watching someone wear a blackface to get paid. This is violence. “
