Former HHS spokesman Eric Hargan to advise digital health startup Amino

Eric Hargan, former Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, will advise Amino, digital health a platform that helps workers at self-insured employers find and book appointments with suppliers, the company announced Wednesday.

Hargan will help Amino deal with unexpected billing and price transparency. regulations under the auspices of his new consulting firm, the Hargan Group. Amino plans to update its platform in line with the new rules.

“Amino’s product development team will create new data, features and tools to ensure regulatory compliance with the Coverage Transparency Rule and the No Surprise Act,” the company said in a press release.

A former Trump administration official has advocated transparency of prices on his most recent public service journey, helping to lead the development and refinement of a rule requiring nearly everyone health insurers and self-insurance plans for pricing disclosures and cost-sharing. Former government officials often consult with private businesses about the rules they helped create, but this practice is controversial because it can raise perceived conflicts of interest.

Hargan currently serves on the boards of directors of medical startups Alio Medical and Tomorrow Health, as well as University Hospitals in Cleveland, SIU Medicine and HealthTrackRx.
