Director of “Shang-Chi” wanted Doctor Strange to appear in the film, but could not

  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has several episodes, but not Doctor Strange.
  • Destin director Daniel Cretton said he would like to include Strange in his film.
  • However, there were “clear reasons” why he was unable to do so after talking with Kevin Feige.

Cameos are a big part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with different characters jumping into and out of each other’s films in this ever-expanding shared story.

One character that seems to be in high demand as a cameo creator is Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. He was supposed to appear in WandaVision until those plans changed, and now director of Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Destin Daniel Cretton has confirmed that he, too, would like to play Strange in his film. However, there seems to be a “very clear reason.[s]”why didn’t it happen.

In an interview with a men’s blog BroBibleCretton explained: “Doctor Strange is not there for obvious reasons. I wish we could include Doctor Strange in our film. “

“But there are very clear reasons why characters that appear may appear very briefly. There is also a very clear reason why they are not physically in the room, ”he continued. “But all this is a great conversation with Kevin. [Feige] as well as producers and directors who are working on other things. “

What these reasons are remains to be seen, but we will not bet against it having anything to do with Spider-Man: No Way Home. This film will feature Doctor Strange extensively, so it may not have left room for Strange in Shang-Chi, especially if both films are set around the same time.

Strange’s companion, Wong, does appear in both No Way Home and Shang Chi. In the trailer for the first one, Wong can be seen exiting Sanctum Sanctorum through a sling – possibly going to the battle ring, where he appears in Shang Chi.

His cameo in Shang Chi is short but notable, appearing alongside another cameo creator: Abomination by Tim Roth, who returns to the MCU after his last appearance in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.

There are other episodes in Shang-Chi that Cretton seems to have had a lot to do with, but they won’t be mentioned for now to save some surprises for the movie, which is out on September 3rd.
