Network creator Christine Weston Chandler, known online as Chris Chan, is under quarantine due to COVID-19 protocols at the Central Virginia Regional Prison after she was arrested on incest charges, according to prison captain Hoffman. Despite being a trans woman, Chandler is classified as male in prison, Hoffman confirmed to Insider.
“I spoke with inmate Chandler and everything went well,” Captain Hoffman told Insider in response to a question about Chandler’s well-being. “Everything is good.”
Chandler is indicted on one count of incest after a man allegedly Chandler detailed sexual relations with his 79-year-old mother in a leaked audio recording.
On Sunday, Chandler was arrested outside a hotel in Charlottesville and was initially held in Henrico County Jail. The arrest was broadcast live by Ethan Ralph, host of the online show Ralph Retort. Chandler has been the target of online trolls and harassment for years, and her recent arrest has piqued her interest.
On Wednesday, she was transferred to the Central Virginia Regional Prison, where she has lived ever since.
The Central Virginia Regional Jail was unable to confirm whether Chandler’s bail had been set as of Wednesday. The court records reviewed by Insider did not contain information about a lawyer or an upcoming appearance in court.
Despite being a transgender woman, Chandler was classified as a man in prison.
On Thursday morning, Chandler’s gender categorization in the VINE custody request system was changed from female to male. The VINE system transmits data on prisons and prisons to the public to inform families and stakeholders about status updates. Hoffman did not provide a reason for the change.
The daily mail reported that Chandler was to be “housed with female prisoners,” although the prison did not confirm this to Insider.
According to court records obtained by Insider, Chandler legally changed her name from Christian to Christine in May 2016.
