American Hospital Association Names Conroy Chair Elect for 2023

The Board of Regents of the American Hospital Association elected Dr. Joanne Conroy as chair-elect in 2023 and chair in 2024.

Conroy is President and CEO of Dartmouth Health, a system based in Lebanon, New Hampshire with patients in northern New England. Conroy joined Dartmouth in 2017 and has led the system through two major expansions and strategic planning to forge a relationship with the Geisel School of Medicine.

Conroy serves on the executive and operating committees of the AHA. In 2021, she chaired the AHA Working Group on Primary Health Care.

Prior to joining Dartmouth Health, Conroy ran the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. Previously, she was Chief Medical Officer of the Association of American Medical Colleges in Washington DC for five years. She has also held leadership positions at the New Jersey Atlantic Health System and the Medical University of South Carolina.

In January 2023, Conroy will replace John Hopert, CEO of Atlanta-based Grady, as chairman-elect. Haupert will replace Wright Lassiter, CEO of Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System, as chairman of the board. Lassiter will head CommonSpirit Health on August 1st.
