Xbox Celebrates Safer Internet Day with New Minecraft Privacy Learning World and Safety Tips for Parents

With the Internet still playing a central role in how we communicate, learn and play, understanding how to stay safe online remains the focus of Xbox. On the eve of the 20th annual Safe Internet Day On February 7, Xbox reaffirms our commitment to an online world where everyone can have fun within the boundaries they set.
As Xbox continues its safety journey, we’re excited to share a few of the ways we’re celebrating Safer Internet Day. I recently sat down with Jeff Rubinstein of the Xbox Podcast to talk about our evolving approach to security.and how players, parents and guardians of all ages can work together to use our resources in a way that suits their personal safety preferences. In addition to being a parent and my role here at Xbox, I am also a player and a customer. Wearing these different hats has allowed me to see and experience firsthand how games can encourage open conversations between parents, children, and caregivers about online safety, as well as good habits regarding budgeting, screen time, and more.
At Xbox, our Trust and Safety team is responsible for helping gamers and their families have peace of mind while gaming on Xbox. We take a multifaceted approach to safety, privacy and public health that aims to provide parents, children and guardians with the tools and education to provide a safer gaming experience for the entire family. We design these resources with choice in mind, understanding that safety is a priority not just for Xbox, but for many families. We have created resources for the whole family, such as ours Xbox Family Centeras a one-stop source for Xbox security and privacy information, Collecting Xbox Data for Kids xbox privacy education website for kids and we have well-established Community Standards and recommendations so that players understand what types of interactions are acceptable and what are not on our platform.
play new Privacy prodigy Game from Education in Minecraft
Families and educators around the world are constantly looking for ways to help young people stay safe in a digital world where they play, learn and build meaningful relationships. At Xbox, we know that a fun way to interact is through a creative learning environment.
Today we are launching a new immersive learning gameplay calledPrivacy prodigywhich is a continuation CyberSafe series from Minecraft Education, which includes last year’s Home sweet hmm. Privacy prodigy designed to help gamers ages 7 to 18 learn how to keep their personal data safe when they’re out in the world, whether it’s learning how to secure data in public places or where to store data. Each challenge is designed to help students and parents learn to make better decisions about who should have access to their personal information and why.
This single-user experience introduces young people to the concept of trust zones. They will develop the ability to determine the different types of information they need to manage and what they can share. Players will also learn about strategies to protect their personal data and how to mitigate any issues that arise from compromised information.
Privacy prodigy available in the Minecraft Education lesson library. If your students, friends, family (or you!) are playing Minecraft Bedrock at home, get free access to Privacy Prodigy at Marketplace Minecraft.
How Xbox helps make gaming conversations safe and fun
Another important and interesting aspect of online communities is communication with friends and players. When playing online games, people usually share anything from gifs to emojis or a simple “GG” (good game) that signals a job well done at the end of a match. Because players are located all over the world, some emojis, messages, and slang terms may have different meanings depending on cultures and regions. Xbox can help determine what is just “gaming jargon” and what is potentially harmful content through content moderation tools that provide a safer gaming experience.
To make gaming conversations safe and fun, Xbox scans over 18 billion interactions a year with community sifta moderation platform powered by a team of language and cultural experts who understand over 20 formal and informal languages, as well as cultural and regional idioms.
